I've always really enjoyed watching the world cup. I also use to play for a few years when I was younger. I'd like to watch the sport more often but I just have a hard time caring about games that don't involve the mens NT. Living in south Louisiana, I have no reason to pull for any club teams. I figure if I just start watching a league more often I'll eventually have a favorite team or two. The only option I see for this though, is to order the MLS package on my satelite. Knowing that the MLS isn't exactly the highest caliber of play, how do you guys go about finding matches to watch? Or would it be worth it to get the MLS package? Are there other packages out there to buy? What time of year does the soccer season span for most leagues or does it vary?

myp2pforum.eu, iraqgoals.net, atdhe.net, channelsurfing.net, justin.tv, ustream.tv, p2p4u.net, veetle.com ... I usually start out with myp2pforum.eu (although not for MLS) and go from there.

I've found just about every MLS game I've ever wanted to watch online for free ... same with the English Premier League. I don't even have Fox Soccer Channel.

Setanta sports is what I used to use, i think it got switched over to something like Fox Soccer Plus through directv. They show a ton of EPL games + random other leagues occasionaly. Fox Soccer Channel (assuming its still there) also shows games but they tend to mix in more Serie A (which I'm not a big fan of personally)

Season usually runs from ~ October or so until June (at least the euro's) I've never really kept up with the MLS much since the coverage is so poor and there aren't any teams close by to me in b'ham to get me interested enough to follow mediocre soccer.

if you have the directv i'd go with the sports package instead of fox sports plus. you get goltv which shows la liga and bundesliga as well as some south american games. and fox soccer channel with seria a and epl. mls, well, i don't watch it so i can't help you there.

they also have a ton of channels for europa and CL (though i've never got to watch them as i'm always at work)

I really started getting into club teams in the mid 2000s, despite passionately following the US men's team for years before that. Just too hard to find games then.

Now, games are on everywhere, and you can find Americans in damn near any league.

Yanks Abroad has a list of national teamers and other Americans and the teams they play for.

If you have digital cable or dish or the like, you can probably filter your guide by individual sports.

I suggest starting off rooting for Americans to succeed with their club teams, and you'll eventually find teams that you like.

DirectTV used to have a sports channel (I forget what it was) that gave you all kinds of rugby and soccer. I got it for the rugby but they had tons of bigtime European soccer.

That's what it was. Didn't know it was switched to Fox Soccer Plus. I thought they just got rid of it. Might hafta hit that up.

If you can, get FSC. FSC+ would be nice if you can get it. ESPN3 shows a few La Liga and Serie A matches and ESPN 2 shows one or two games a week.

Sheep, that's good advice.
I've been watching footie, on and off for over over 25 years. Went to my first match in 1984.
Sheep's advice though, coming into the sport, now, and really supporting the MNT.

I didn't really start caring about an EPL club, I DID watch EPL as much as I could, until Brian McBride got to Fulham, then Carlos Bocanegra. I really didn't take to Sheffield Wednesday when John Harkes was there, and only supported the players, not the clubs.

I'm better now.

I figured I'd revive this thread for a second out of my loyalty to the Scousers.

Do yourself a favor and find a copy or watch extensive highlights of the Champion's League final between AC Milan and Liverpool in 2005. Liverpool were the underdog the entire tournament, and Liverpool scored 3 "must have" second half goals against Olympiacos to keep their dreams alive. Going into the final they were basically written off as fodder for the Italians and were expected to get romped.

The predictions didn't dissapoint as Milan played some of the most dominating football I've ever seen, going up 3-0 by half. As Crespo scored the third goal the English commentator proclaimed "Milan are playing football out of this world, this final is completely over."

Coming out for the second half everyone expected more of the same, but the Liverpool fans, living up to their reputation never stopped singing their team on from the stands with "You'll never Walk Alone," the club's theme song about walking forward through the darkest of times. In the 54th minute Steven Gerrard sent a header in and the Reds were brought to life. Liverpool would score 3 goals in 7 minutes and send the stadium into an absolute frenzied riot. After weathering a flurry of Milan attemps in extra time, Dudek heroically save not one but two penalty shots to lift Liverpool the tropy for the 5th time allowing them to keep it.

IMO, the greatest underdog comeback story in the history of professional sports.

If that doesn't turn you into a Liverpool fan you don't have a soul.

Guess I'm soul less, then.
No love for Scousers, some respect toward a great history and a level of support, but that's it. And yes, that was a match for the ages.

Haha you're just preparing your pent up hatred for when we beat you in the Europa final. Our clubs have never had any love loss between each other.

Those who want to be a fan of the most successful club, domestically and internationally, in English history, and the third most successful club in Europe.

Nah, not really. I don't take it to the extreme that many Liverpool supporters do.

That shirt reminds me of all of the stories about how LSU fans tip over porter potties, beat up grandmas, and steal opposing fans' babies to sell into slavery.

As always, just an exaggeration.

Although now that I think about it, it may be an exaggeration in LSU's case. Liverpool case might be closer to the truth....
