and they fear him. Ha! Kind of like in the ULM game when he "suspended" his star WR for the game until ULM was pasting bama and Saban lifted the "suspension" in the 2nd half. What of Castille, McClain and countless others who were "disciplined" by Saban for breaking the law, etc? Very few if any of his top players have missed significant playing time or much less been dismissed from the team. Consequently, every year since Saban has been at bama, he has players get into trouble and if they are a star they get a slap on the wrist if anything at all. And the stars know this and they play Saban like a yo-yo.

Go look at the number of players that have been dismissed from LSU under Miles because of off-the-field incidents. Miles is plenty tough on the players, but like stated in another thread, Miles isn't and a-hole about it.

You're never going to convince the LSU Sabanites that his "process" isn't the best way to coach. You're just not.

To be fair, Dj Hall never bought into what Saban preached to the team. He eventually apologized for it.

Didnt Saban kick like 5 or 6 players off during his first season because they werent following his rules?

Honestly, do you think Saban would have kept RP on the team as long as Miles did?

Did the shenanigans start in 2007?

Maybe, but not a star among them.

Let's just say, that RP would have been in the doghouse, but Saban would have managed to keep him long enough to get what he wanted out of him.

Okay, but what has that got to do with Saban lifting the "suspension" on DJ in the second half of the ULM game when bama was getting beat and Saban needed him to play. At least Meyer stuck to his guns going into the SECCG. The only reason Saban wouldn't let Andre Smith play in the Sugar Bowl was because it would have been a violation and Saban had gotten his usefulness out of Smith, anyhow.

For some players they need to be brought down to earth by the coach. A Saban type coach can control ego's at the college level

Wasnt that DJ's last game at Bryant Denny? Seems like a nice gesture by Nicky IMO.

As long as the player's ego is not bigger than Saban's, it's okay with Saban. I don't think you will find a coach with a bigger ego than Saban. Well, maybe Meyer. And Kiffin. And Orgeron.

Yes, it was nice. There is probably a humane side to the story. But, the local media didn't pass it off that way. Of course, all is forgotten and forgiven, now.

I don't know what your driving at? I never question Miles's discipline although I guess some do. The first year Saban cleaned up a lot of crap off that Bama team. My thing is Saban is fully loaded at Bama right now and he has done nothing but impress. Going undefeated in the SEC in 2 regular seasons is unreal. Les has some work to do to prove he can keep up with Saban over a season. Being behind by 5 and 3 games the last 2 years is not exactly what you would call keeping up. Leave the Saban and Miles comparisons alone for now. Until Les proves it over a season Saban>Miles right now and it is not close.

Saban did kick players off, but with Saban only the strong survive. He did it here and Left CLM a ton of talent and for those 4 years we had a good run.

I'm not driving at anything other than the misnomer that Saban is a god who can do no wrong. There is no doubting that he is a great coach, but like anyone, he has weaknesses. I will tell you, that he could have just as easily have gone 9-3 in the regular season, but for a couple of lucky plays and favorable calls. AS A MATTER OF FACT, I'll say that Texas was about to hand it to bama until McCoy got hurt.

As far as comparing Saban and Miles, each has his strengths and as has been demonstrated, each is capable of winning it all.

Yeah, Shula didn't kick anybody off the team, ever, and Saban inherited a ton of talent also and if you don't think so, look at his Srs and RSJrs this year. And aside from not coaching up bama his first year, 6-6 reg season, he's done a great job with them since.

Saban is an arse who produces great short term results and leaves problems in his wake. He never stays around long enough to pick up the pieces. He's like steroids.

Let's wait three years and see.

saban lost 3 or more games in 4 out of 5 seasons at LSU. Miles' 5 year record is better than saban's 6 year record at LSU

Rebuilding a program and inheriting a program are two separate things. I wasn't a fan of Saban his last season at LSU, I think his heart wasn't in it but you can't compare what Saban did at LSU to Miles. Les can still write his own history, but this year will be a milestone in the determination of his legacy at LSU.

Saban's personnel style is marked by attrition. I don't think off the field behavior is a mark of Sabans style, but if you don't buy into what he is doing, you are gone. I think Miles style is the total opposite.

Precisely...and sooner-or-later his luck, yes, luck, will run out. He got some breaks, as most teams do, the last two seasons.
