as Tenn and GA if we needed a new head coach or OC/DC

Is it strictly timing or do we overvalue ourselves? I recall coaches were not lining up in '04 when Saban left AND he was 1 year removed from a NC and had the cupboard full of 4/5* players and a fence around LA.

- incredible fan base who loves their coaches unconditionally
- administration that has always been willing to hire top-paid coaches
- best facilities in the world
- stockpile of backups who are better than the players who started the previous season
- incredible fan base who loves their coaches unconditionally

Well for one thing, we have a natural recruiting base, which automatically makes this job more attractive.

GA

Their issue is that they are going after the best of the best and its hard to get the best of the best away. They'll hire someone in due time, likely an NFL guy... they may be waiting for some playoff matchups to go down and teams to get eliminated...

I feel that coordinators are shoot and miss. You have the guys you want and it could take months to go down the list no matter where you are, however with head coaches it is different. The timing for UT is horrible and I know that LSU would be in a similar position to UT, if Miles left immediately and without notice. However, I believe due to our facilities, our tradition, our AD who is committed to winning, and most importantly being the flagship school in a state that is loaded with talent, we could probably do better than UT.

Oregon and Texas piss on LSU's facilities.

I think he meant the academic center.

I haven't seen Texas' recently but Oregon's are ridiculous.

It was bad timing last hire but some people do really overrate it also.

Phil Knight's money basically shadowed Texas' facilities. No on else is even in the ballpark.

None of that matters apparently. I am definately begining to feel that Miles may be the best coach available. For now at least. I live in UGA country. I feel bad for their program and Tenn's. It could easily be us. At some point all the people that have turned them down start to make the schools look bad. I think UGA's problem is they fired a guy who's defense was ranked 34th. That's not terrible. Tenn fired Fulmer after a 9 win season. That speaks volumes for both schools. Who wants to step into that pressure cooker. If LSU ever decides to Can Miles, the better have someone lined up. If not, we will prob face the same situation. Again, I feel for UGA and TN. Didn't at first, But do now...

Good points, but they were also valid in '04 when we went down our HC list somewhat b/f hiring Miles (at least, that was my understanding). And some would argue that the program was in better shape than it is now.

As far as coordinators, I seem top remember hearing a few names being pursued b/f landing on Crowton and Chavis.

My point being that LSU is a very good program, and may need to replace some coaches, but don't automatically assume the best will line up for the job. Tenn and GA are both very good programs with great traditions and awesome fan support too.

we could do better than Miles pretty easily, but would we be any closer to Florida and Bama. There is something to be said for stability, and making a calculated change vs. and emotional one (like fans typically want to make). Tenn took a chance in dumping Fulmer and hiring Kiffen, and they're paying the price. With the money available to even mid-tier schools right now, it's not as easy to get a coach to jump to a situation he may see as more risky as the one he's in. Every SEC school gets $15M a year, just from ESPN.

Stability says a lot. I think everyone here would agree that Frank Beamer at VT is a great coach. But they also forget that he has had many up and down years.
