quote:

When asked to assess his game's strengths and weaknesses Monday, Jefferson cited his fear of interceptions. While his ball control instincts are sound, he said he must balance them with a team's need for its quarterback to make plays.

"It has," he replied when asked if his tendency boosted the sack total. "Some of the sacks were errors that the line had, but I take responsibility for them."

IMO one of the biggest things JJ needs to overcome. After the Int meltdowns last year can't blame him or the staff for being cautious but at some point the QB has to have faith in himself and his teammates to make plays.

No truly great QB has been afraid to throw it. Keeps defenses on their toes.

Agreed, it was obvious at times that he was out there simply trying to not make a mistake.

throwing the ball out of bounds can also be considered an easy interception preventitive measure. and you dont lose yards or time.

What I like is that he admits it as well and knows that to get the team where they want to be he has to step up.

Not really talking about just this years bowl game but the next 2 seasons IMO

No truly great QB is polished at 19 either. Just saying.

I agree Yat.

Good that he acknowledges the problem. Now, we'll see if he learns how to overcome it.

He won't recover. After the backlash Lee got for trying to make plays, he is gun shy. And I'm sure Miles branded into his head "No Turnovers", as he was making Jefferson call him daddy.

Miles can't spell "turnovers".

Crowton is the most likely culprit here.

Nice comeback. Our QB played scared "Jefferson cited his fear of interceptions". This was due to the media, fans, and coaches bashing of Lee.

Jefferson quote on fear of interceptions

Afraid he might have to try to tackle somebody. JL was the world's worst about that. After he threw an int. he would make absolutely no effort to try to pursue and tackle the interceptor.

Where I stand? I just know that if our QB is scared to try and make plays we will have problems. He ADMITTED he is. We were ranked 107th in the nation. Sorry if this doesn't bother you.

so what's the general consensus? does JJ need to grow a sac or grow a brain?

Yes you've brought JL up more than once in this thread. Plus made references to JJ losing manhood and calling LM daddy. Your obviously a retard or worse.

Really? 107th? Hadn't heard that before. 3 losses bothers me, not rankings of statistics.

JJ has to trust in the play that is called and in his ability to read the defense presnap. so many throws have to be made ON TIME or the play will not work and the protection cannot last. Often, this means throwing the ball well before you can tell whether the receiver is open.

If nothing else, JJ could improve by taking off running at the very moment he realizes that he cannot or will not get the ball out on time.

I actually think JJ had a pretty good year for someone of his age/experience and I am optimistic about his future. But getting the ball out is something he must improve on.
