With all the comments about our offensive line being small and ineffective I wanted to see if there was truth to that. Turns out there is

LSU Offensive Line
70 Ciron Black 6-5 322
68 Josh Dworaczyk 6-6 281
65 Lyle Hitt 6-2 295
53 T-Bob Hebert 6-3 285
78 Joseph Barksdale 6-5 315
*note: many of our backups are 300+

Georgia Offensive Line
54 Strickland, Tanner 6-5 328
60 Boling, Clint 6-5 304
61 Jones, Ben C 6-3 300
71 Glenn, Cordy RT 6-5 328
79 Anderson, Justin 6-5 330

Georgia Defensive Line
56 Atkins, Geno DT 6-1 290
95 Owens, Jeff DT 6-3 300
41 Battle, Roderick DE 6-4 259
42 Houston, Justin DE 6-3 259

There's something to be said about differences in size between OL & DL; however, there's also something to be said about technique, which can sometimes combat the size differences.

This is just flat out tiny by SEC standards for the interior of an offensive line.

Depends on the scheme. Coaching is more the problem here. That line 'size wise' is fine for a spread option offense.

with people this size, its how they use their weight and/or use the weight of the rusher against him, not the weight itself

You'd think this would be an advantage for LSU, but the OL problems aren't part-and-parcel simply match-up issues. There is a ton of simple technique not showing up on the field.

Again people talking about the size of our O-Line. With the exception of LG, this line is actually BIGGER than last year. Granted LG is a lot smaller, but that was going to happen eventually.

You don't need a bunch of 320 pounders to run the ball effectively, just ask the Broncos of the late 90s. Granted we don't have Alex Gibbs coaching this line, but experience and technique are our main problems. Hopefully T-Bob and Josh will improve over the course of the season.

quality is important. Some NFL lines are actually lighter than some SEC lines........

Besides, Hitt is twice as strong as most chunks on the line in the SEC. 6-2 295 is very adequate. Josh D. is the physical weak link and T-Bob just needs more experience to make the calls.

Those numbers appear inflated subjectively. When on the field Hitt & Hebert look small compared to other SEC lineman. Josh D looks like the right size but doesn't appear physically opposing at all.

Listed weights mean nothing. Those players could be +/- 30 pounds by now...

I heard no one complain about Helms being 280 and Lyle being 290 last year?

Also, Lyle is the strongest player on the team. Ask some players or coaches

Sure it is. But from what we've seen on the field and what many of you are saying, there hasn't been much quality to contradict the lack of size.

For running up the middle it sure is tiny.

Yep. Imagine trying to run up the middle with an undersized center and guards against Cody and Powe and the likes. That would be uncomfortable to watch.

The Bama game will be tough to watch. I might go for a nice bike ride or something when that one comes on. Anything to avoid the TV.

Not if they have the right call and the 295lb guy squats 750lbs, benches 550, and cleans 440.........quality son!!!!

Again, the LSU o-line has hardly been "quality" this year.
