Miles Press Conference was very informative...

It's obvious to me that Miles is much more comfortable in front of the media than when he first came to LSU. I've said it before, but Miles is quite obviously a lot smarter than many fans - including LSU fans - give him credit for.
This guy knows his shite and has his finger right on the pulse of what this team is capable of and more importantly what this specific team needs to do in order to improve and have a successful season.
To the mad hatter.
ETA: In the PC, he touched on basically everything that has been criticized from the Washington game. I'm paraphrasing Miles' comments here ...

quote:
-Tackling in the first half was the biggest issue on defense. Tackle and the first half is a lot different.
-Patrick Peterson is going to be special at LSU.
-Washington was loading up the box, and prevented us from getting any real ground game going in the first half.
-Defensive line pressure has to improve, although defense was on the field 83 snaps, which is not typical.
-Pep Livingston injury is day-to-day, shouldn't be too serious.
-We wanted to ease Jefferson in as he continues to mature and get comfortable as the starter.
-Jake Locker is going to be a first round draft pick, and Polk is an excellent back.
-We love Jefferson's heart and desire to get more yards, but we also would like him to get some yards and get down more often.
-Locker's mobility presented problems in the first half, especially for the d-line.
-Helton didn't perform up to his capability. That's not him, and we know he will do better.
-No huddle offense and calling plays at the linie was specific to this game and this environment (crowd, etc)
-Wanted to get Shepard in, but because we only had 48 plays on offense, the right situation never presented itself ... we didn't want to put him in in a tight game and allow the potential for a youthful mistake. Make no mistake, though, he will be a part of the offense this season.
-offensive line play was ok. They really jammed the box and tried to make us throw the ball, which we did in the second half. We wanted to get the run game going.
-Tolliver and Peterson were great, as was Cutrera.
-Kicking game (kickoffs) were in our favor. Their average start was the 19, and ours was the 35
-Washington's last drive, we were just trying to keep everything in front of us, tackle, and allow them to run the clock out. We were successful in doing so.
-We knew exactly what we wanted to do on our final offensive drive of the game, and we did it. Now, we need that to happen earlier in the game.
-Very pleased with the adjustments our coaching staff made at the half.
-This game certainly presented challenges in terms of preparation. Washington is not even in school yet, so they didn't even have to worry about the school issue.
-Very confident in this defensive staff and what they're doing to improve our defense. I'm not worried at all about it.

Just caught the end. What did he say about the Defense earlier?
Posted on 9/8/09 at 12:54 pm to JPLSU1981
Care to shed some light on this matter? What did he do/say to provoke this thread?
You mentioned it, but specifically what did he mention in order to improve, etc?
Thanks.

Well, it is my assumption that anyone that takes the time to comment on anything related to LSU football would certainly also take the time to listen to the head coach's main press conference of the week.
If someone on this board did not listen to the PC, then I submit that your opinion of the team does not count, especially if your opinion/comments on the team involve criticism. you cannot criticize with credibility unless you have all the facts.
ETA: This "jerkish" post is really for the Negatigers out there that have flooded the board with crap since the Washington game. This is not intended for the regular fan that merely couldn't logistically listen to the PC.

Not all of us are in a position to listen, chief.
