how many of you think JL will get better???

I had this discussion this past weekend with my friends (most of them read this board).
I was the only one who thought that JL could become a good QB. My reasoning being that he had the physical tools and on occasion made great throws. He just wasn't there mentally yet. Something he could learn. He was thrown in there last year with not that much experience (started playing football i the 10th grade).
They felt as if he had hit his ceiling.
I am not saying he can be all SEC, but I do think he can be an above avg QB.
It looks like he blew his only shot; with JJ taking over.
Thoughts.

it would be rare cause for a freshman QB not to get better as he goes along, i think JL will too.

far from it, that was as low as he would get being a freshperson, not the opposite

He can get better, there is no reason to think he has hit his ceiling.
He will never be good in many fans eyes because of last season though.

Could he have been any worse? Really?
If he didn't learn from that experience last year, then nothing can help him improve. That said, if he did learn, he can be an above average quarterback. Maybe not a starter, but above average nonetheless.

i personally looked forward to him being a starter in the future. keyword is future. i still think he could pull a matt flynn and get a year to himself to shine, but he has to work through a lot. after last year he can pretty much only get better.

i just hope he isn't hurt mentally from last year...good kid

I would argue that he has better tools than flynn. Of course Flynn was further along mentally than him. I just think that all of the pressure was placed directly on his shoulders and things snowballed from there. I just wish people would wait to judge him after his 4-5 yrs. at LSU and not one year when he shouldn't have played anyway. Granted last year was as bad as it gets but I judt don't think he is that terrible

This season will show that he has learned, developed, someone the team needs. Lay in the weeds and watch.

I agree. He is one play away from being the starter and I think the coaches are not uncomfortable with him at the helm. Other than the interceptions his numbers for a first year player wasn't that bad. I just think that he needed a few more years of grooming before being thrown into the fire. But I think that he still has a chance to finish his career at LSU on a high note.

He is better already. He was put in an extremely difficult position last year. Before the year is out, you will be wishing he was in the game!

I really wish he had transferred to Texas Tech. and been a success. With J.Jefferson and R.Shepard playing QB for LSU, his opportunities are few!

My thought is that you should hang out with smarter friends.

If Jeferson goes down this year, Lee is our QB. Shepard is not ready to QB an entire game (see J. Lee of last year). Shepard will see limited snap at QB next year (4-5 per game, to run specific plays such as option, option fakes, etc.).
Anyone who says J Lee has hit a ceilling demonstrates very limited (I would say no) knowledge of football.
Find smarter friends.

Flynn had 4 years to get better.
What happened to JL was not fair.
He wasn't supposed to have to be the starting QB.
He will redeem himself sometime this season.

People on this board praise Jake Locker, but hate on JL. Check their stats. Also, check Colt McCoys soph stats, regardless of what he did as a frosh.
One season doesn't define a whole career, not with chances for redemption. I have no clue what role JL will play for LSU, but he has the tools to be very good as a backup, or as a starter.
If the starter goes down for LSU this season, we are in a helluva lot better position than many teams in college football

Sure he can be better. He was put in a position last season that i would not want to be in.Gotta remember this kid was a true freshman. That being said he will continue to grow and mature. I wish the kid the best, because it took balls to do what was thrown on him.

Im not sure he will get another chance b/c of JJ, but I hope he learned from last year. He did throw for nearly 1900 yds as a RS Frosh - second only to Tommy Hodson at LSU. Statistically comparable to JR hs RS FROSH campaign in the SEC - See SEC Passer Ratings. His errors were so bad that they took away from the good things he did.

Stafford had a crappy freshmen year now he's a superstar. It can happen.
