Did Texas and Oklahoma piss in everyones cheerios???

As far as I am concerned this has been the best conference behind the SEC... I just don't understand why everyone is jumping ship. I mean I know money talks but Jesus its a legit conference from softball to football and hell maybe even cross country which I know Colorado wrecked shop in that huh? I didn't mind listening and watching FSN Southwest with that guy with the hair getting updates on the things going on in the Heartland.

Comments, questions, concerns.... i need answers from the Big 12 faithful and formers

How about doing some homework? This had been discussed over and over and over on this board.

Texas makes more than everyone else and Nebraska, A&M and Colorado got pissed and left. That's pretty much it when you get down to it.

I thought so, but no equal revenue sharing?

Big 12 does not have equal revenue sharing. That's why everyone is pissed off.

Texas A&M and Nebraska both voted for (and benefited from) unequal revenue sharing continually as members of the Big 12 Conference. Nebraska, in particular, demanded such unequal revenue sharing.

Nebraska planned their own "Cornhusker Network." Oklahoma planned to unveil their own network in August, but that fell through. Texas A&M was offered a percentage of a "Lone Star Network" with the University of Texas, with Fox Sports as the media rights' holder, but the Aggie administration laughed and said it would never be feasible.

Former Big 12 Commissioner Dan Beebe was the favored choice of the University of Oklahoma as commissioner, and Mr. Beebe also advocated equal revenue sharing.

As part of Oklahoma's demands to stay in the Big 12, Mr. Beebe was fired.

See? It all makes perfect sense.

Also... (edit):
quote:

Texas makes more than everyone else

This is not true. The University of Oklahoma made more in television revenue than the University of Texas, at least until the Longhorn Network.

By the way, the SEC does not pool/share Tier 3 revenues, either.

Changing the revenue sharing involved rewriting the conference bylaws. That typically requires unanimous agreement. Interestingly, Nebraska fans often complained about the Big 12's unequal revenue sharing. Beebe said that when it was a Big 12 member, Nebraska officials "were the most adamant" in opposition to changing the bylaw.

Ironically, the source said, Texas supported another candidate for commissioner four years ago, when Beebe was hired, while OU supported Beebe.

Last spring, the 10 members of the Big 12 discussed granting their first- and second-tier media rights to the conference but failed to reach an accord on a decision that could have secured the long-term stability the league now lacks.

Seven schools were in favor of securing the rights to the conference, while three stood in opposition, a source with knowledge of the league proceedings told the Tribune. The three schools against the measure, according to the source, were Oklahoma, Texas and Texas A&M.

2009-10 payouts

Kansas $12,116,857
Texas $12,048,365
Oklahoma $11,214,630
Okla. St. $10,692,725
Missouri $10,395,893
Baylor $10,228,970
AVERAGE $10,136,406
Texas Tech $9,689,068
K-State $9,428,315
Nebraska $9,334,548
Texas A&M $9,265,582
Iowa State $8,896,242
Colorado $8,325,680
TOTAL $121,636,875

OK, Kansas made the most, and Texas was second. But for football only, Oklahoma made more than Texas in shared revenue.

Texas A&M could have been a partner with Texas in a lucrative television network but wasn't interested in joining the Longhorns when the idea was hatched, Texas athletic director DeLoss Dodds said Thursday.

Dodds told The Associated Press he first met with Texas A&M athletic director Bill Byrne about the idea of an Aggies-Longhorns network about four years ago but Byrne didn't seem interested. At the time, the Longhorns weren't sure they could carry a network on their own.

Byrne tried to re-open discussions about a year ago, but by then it was too late, Dodds said.

Texas had decided it had the national brand, stature and skill to forge ahead alone.

"I said we were too far down the road," Dodds said. "We had figured out how to do it by ourselves."

Always interesting to read whorn version of history. Akin to those movies that start out with the disclaimer: "Inspired by actual events," and about as faithful to the truth.

Bevo does not play well with others. Nor does it have any interest in being in a conference of equals. Espn money has corrupted tu and it's all playing out so we can see clearly bevo's greed and loathing for others. Doubt me? Just spend a few minutes on hornfans, orangebloods, and shaggybevo to see their twisted fans' points of view.

Important point: What was the revenue split in the proposed "Lone Star Network"?

frick you and go away.

just let him go - he's obviously picked up the banner for Dr Drunk

Look Tiggers - this is the only talking point UT has left at this juncture to battle against the remaining 99% of the college football landscape when UT is called out for being arrogant and helping form this abomination of a framework for the worthless big12. These "links" and "quotes" have been regurgitated over and over again on all 3 main Longhorn websites, and much like the sheep they are, Longhorn fans know nothing but to copy and paste the same response over and over again. It's cleverly edited and certain details are conveniently left out, spun to make it look like Texas is completely innocent in all this. No need to get all riled up over some tshirt fan.

if your statements are accurate then there are other reasons for the mass flight. there are some storied programs that not only left the big 12 but did so with gusto and aplomb. yes, fans from these schools specifically mentioned your school as a reason to leave and a reason to be glad they accomplished that fact. what's your explanation of these events and their fan's jubilation?

I just posted this as a new thread starter - but it fits here, too, because it shows an OU fan skewering bevo. From OU's landthieves, a fan of OU posted the following this morning:

quote:

Now we make our move.

OU/OSU/KU/ISU to PAC. Put that in a document from the PAC offices on Power's desk.

That dissolves the conference, and leaves UT with Tech, Baylor, and Kstate.

At which point, UT has 5 options, and has to make a decision quick.
1. Drop the LHN and join the PAC
2. Drop the LHN and join the Big 10
3. Drop the LHN and join the SEC
4. Keep the LHN and add whomever bottom feeders they want into a new SWC
5. Keep the LHN and go independent in football, and beg the WAC or Sun Belt to take their basketball and other sports.

Only options 1&2 are good options.

i understand this. i was simply wanting a longhorn fan's take on why the conference blew up (if indeed it continues to do so). geographically, the big 12 made sense and they really were strong in football with texas, ou and nebraska and some very good mid levels with osu, a&m, colorado and texas tech. they have won 2 bcs trophies and have played in 5 nc games overall; clearly second to the sec. they were late in the tv deal sweepstakes but it seems they had a good contract which could have been a solid foundation for long term financial rewards and stability of income for all of the participating schools. then, about 18-24 months ago, boom! only the big east has had anything remotely like it. the ACC, PAC 10, BIG 10 and SEC are 4 pillars while the other 2 BCS conferences implode. i am devoid of the actual facts regarding the big 12's demise. the big east is easy to understand as it is like the government in lebanon; various disjointed factions with no clear majoity of purpose.

you sure it can't be blamed on the other four conferences? i mean the b1G had to accept a nebraska, and the PAC had to accept Colorado

they couldn't leave well enough alone either

Bingo.

Arky from the SWC, CU, Corn, & A&M have all left citing the same reasons. The spin from Austin is comical; it's ALWAYS someone else's fault. Austin is a microcosm of what is wrong with America...
