What I think is going to happen relatively soon...

The SEC is going to launch a network very similar to the BTN. As in soon, I mean maybe a year or so.
I think this has been the most overlooked aspect of expansion. If anyone has been paying attention, the BTN has increased revenue every single year and the schools now make more off that than their ESPN contract.
This is why the SEC is willing to get A&M as a 13th team even if they dont have a 14th. This is why they unanimously voted A&M in and also why no other team has been accepted. This is why they are willing to deal with scheduling conflicts of a 13 team conference.
Think about how much money that made the entire conference. You just added a football crazy state with 25 million people with an institution that has >50K students and hundreds of thousands of former students. Also, because Texas will not get rid of their LHN, the SEC will not have to compete with a Big12 network in Texas.
I dont think the SEC will expand until they can get one of the ACC schools, which may not happen.
I think the SEC made out like a bandit.

Also, if you read Larry Scotts statement, he mentions their network is going to launch soon, which is exactly why they didnt add OU without UT.
How many people reside in your state is a probably the biggest single factor right now.

Until they remove the waiver requirement you best put your "membership" on hold. It hasn't been approved.

I thought they tried that several years ago and it turned out it was better to do the CBS & ESPN deal?

From new Texas A&M Chancellor John Sharp just yesterday...
quote:
“There is no doubt A&M is going to the Southeastern Conference,” Sharp said during an open forum attended by staff writer Melissa Ludwig. “In our minds, we’re already there – already working out the schedules.”
Concerning Baylor’s threat of litigation, Sharp said, “I’m not going to have too many comments about Baylor wanting to sue everybody, but I have never seen a situation made better by a lawsuit.”
As A&M president R. Bowen Loftin has said all along, the Aggies hope their annual rivalry with Texas continues regardless of conference affiliation, and Sharp reiterated that sentiment Tuesday.
“We want to keep the rivalry game with Texas, and we’ve told them we’re ready to keep that,” Sharp said. “If that game isn’t (played), it will not be our fault. It will be because Texas decided not to.”
Sharp concluded with, “We are going to the Southeastern Conference to play with the big boys,” and then jokingly added, “That will come back to haunt me.”

If the big12 is truly surviving, this will no longer be an issue. The big12 needs A&M gone ASAP to work on a replacement. BU will have no choice and its honestly in their best interest.
Plus, they have zero damages to make a claim.

That's true, but I've seen comments from the SEC office to the effect that they'd revisit the issue if changes warrant.
In other words, CBS/ESPN good enough...for now.

Here is an article...

Well, the network has come a long way since then.
Neither the conference nor the Chicago-based cable network publicly talk about their finances, but, according to the Sports Business Journal, three years after it went on the air the network is delivering close to $70 million a year to the Big Ten.
quote:
With other conferences including the SEC, Pac-10 and Big East, and even the University of Texas, all talking about potentially forming their own networks, the Big Ten Network is a model for -- and some might say the envy of -- big-time college sports around the country.
quote:
Cable companies pay the network, on average, 36 cents a month for every subscriber, according to the SNL Kagan, a firm that tracks media business financials. Last year, there were almost 42 million subscribers generating $182.5 million for the network. It brought in $21 million in other revenue, mostly from ads.
According to Kagan, the network turned a 30 percent profit in just its third year, and should hit $272.9 million in revenue and a 36 percent profit in 2012.

The ACC and SEC are going to launch a joint network shared 60-50-40 with monthly subscription rates @ $1.25 and( .50 where no team exists).
Subscription fees shared 60% -40% in areas where only one conference is represented 50%-50% in areas where both conferences is represented or no conference is represented.

Damn if true then I see why they'd want the state of Missouri and those markets.

That would be pretty crazy if true. Do you actually know something?

If this will bring back night games at TS, I am all for that.

If there is reasonable assurance that the Big East would crumble and the ACC can pull Notre Dame from the rubble; you could very well see the SEC pull the trigger on WVU.
