depends what happens to UT. if they go independent, theyll keep playing. if they go west, itll be a tougher situation.

if aTm is smart, they will stop playing Texas. They are trying to rebrand themselves and step out of that shadow, they should go the full 9.

Also, you cut out a marquee game for Texas, leaving them with basically only Oklahoma to sell to fans and recruits. aTm will have tons of marquee games to sell being in the SEC.

Does A&M change their fight song if they don't play?

Cancelling the game is small and petty. It should continue as a Thanksgiving staple.

According to that provisional schedule being tossed around on hte SECr, A&M has the first game, thanksgiving weekend, and the last game open for a potential game against UT. Should be workable if UT wants it.

I do think that if Dodds and Powers will not schedule A&M in any sport that all SEC schools should return the favor.

Now that each school will be playing a Texas team during conference play there should be no reason to give the longhons another legit game.

Looking at you Ole Miss.

Arkie is on their 2014 schedule as well.

Ultimately, the ball is in Texas' court. We have already said we want to continue the rivalry. It is up to them to man up or chicken out.

Lawmakers will file legislation to continue UT and A&M Thanksgiving game tradition
quote:

Texas State Senator Tommy Williams (R-The Woodlands) has recently announced plans to file legislation during the 83rd legislative session to instruct both Texas A&M and The University of Texas to continue their long-standing Thanksgiving rivalry football game. State Rep. John Otto will sponsor the legislation in the Texas House.

"This football series began in 1894, and I don't think it's time to stop this rivalry," said Williams. "The game has served as an important family tradition for millions of Texans throughout the century, and it's important we preserve this great tradition."

I would love to see the game continue. I can't imagine Thanksgiving without it. State government has no business getting involved though.

Actually, it's not unheard of for state legislatures to get involved to make instate rivals play (Alabama-Auburn, Florida-FSU). They write huge checks to keep these universities going, they should have a say in campus life.

Wish the government wouldn't get involved, but I really believe continuing the rivalry is best for the state of Texas, regardless of what either school thinks of the other.

Well said, Baloo. Everyone's always ready to accept the government check, but no one wants to accept government supervision.
