Mountain West is biggest loser

When all this started they should have been proactive from the start and added Boise, Houston, Fresno, Nevada, Hawaii, and SMU. They add a championship game and re-negotiate their TV contracts. They would likely be in a good position to take the big east's auto bid and therefore convince TCU , BYU, and possibly Utah to stay put.

Agreed, they could have had a nice little conference. Would have eventually been hard to keep Utah and TCU though.

The Mountain West will never get a autobid because the powers-that-be will never let them. They will continue to decapitate the conference so they never have to share a dime with them, and there's nothing the Mountain West can do or could have done to change this.
