for their actions or lack there of and being an embarrassment to their conference? I know it's not likely but just wondering if a conference had this ability to. Penn St to the big east?

The last thing anybody should be worried about is athletics. Penn St University will forever be tainted by this scandal. Any mention of PSU (right or wrong) will mean negativity for a long time.

I don't see why the conference doesn't at least get into Penn St.'s ear in moments like this when they are becoming a total embarrassment to the conference for pretty serious actions here.

Yes, because my first thought when hearing about this was, "OMG! They play Michigan in football!"

Conference alignments are most certainly about reputations, affiliations, and money. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to begin to see how Penn St can harm their conference with what is ever developing now.

Could they? Yes I'm sure the B1G could do it, but this would bring them back to 11 teams. They would have to add someone else and I don't think they really want to dismiss Paterno'S University.

I can see them doing it if things get a lot worse... which it looks like it will.

The NCAA should be able to do something too. If there was any reason to give an athletic department or at the very least the football team the death penalty, this would be it.

And for those that are going to say, but it didn't directly involve the football program... football locker showers is part of the football program... their facilities are part of it. And def the coach, GA, AD, and the president are all an integral part of that program.

Selling jerseys and accepting cash are all trivial compared to this. And if isn't part of the NCAA's "rule", then they should set a precedent and retro-actively make up a rule.

I think it depends on how this plays out.

If the story by Mark Madden, currently on Drudge, pans out, then the entire university could end up going bust because they'll be paying out the wazoo to children abused by people connected with the school.

If Penn State becomes a liability to the rest of the Big Ten, they could be turfed and replaced with a school like Rutgers, UCONN, or Pitt.

its not happening.

the school is still on a par with good academic schools. not great, but good.

the area will still produce great and good high school football players.

life will go on.

in two or three years, no one will even care about this story at all.
some assistant was a pervert. Ok.
back to the news at 5.

It will eventually blow over.

Most people don't immediately associate Virginia Tech with mass-murder anymore. They did a few years ago.

i see where you are trying to go with it but a student going nuts doesn't hold a candle to a cover up scandal that has the potential to reach biblical proportions.

Horrible example.

Va Tech did not try to coverup the shooter and his victims. And the shooter was a student not on the staff of their highly respected athletic department.

you suck at this. go away.

32 murders on campus in one day is worse for a school's image.

My response was directed at the poster talking about Penn State's image going forward.

Eventually Penn State won't be known for this.

Sorry if me disagreeing with you hurts your feelings.

VaTech had a tragedy with no doing of their own. I wouldn't call it their image like Penn St with the highest of officials covering up a molestation scandal. Va Tech is more closely related to a tornado hitting a building or something than linking it with Penn St's scandal.

BTW it appears corporate america is starting to run away from Penn St. Won't sit well with big 10.

I believe they are ranked higher academically than Tulane is.

Their were two main differences b/w the scandals at PSU and the massacre at VT. The first one was that the VT incident was done by one lone obviously disturbed immature college child over a time frame of minutes or hours, whereas the scandals at PSU involved full grown adults over a decade. The second difference was the entire country's heart hurt for VT after their incident, but at PSU the entire country is enraged at the way the leadership has represented itself.
