If the SEC is bringing in a "warm body" as team 14. I would rather see one the brings something to the table.

WVU's big claim is...we beat UGA. We won the big least...we lost to a 4-7 team, when the 'ship was on the line. WVU brings NOTHING. N-O-T-H-I-N-G!

You want a crap football team...bring Maryland, they bring market area and under armour money. I bet UA will pay the 20 million.

Bring TCU, they bring a big market, and a flash in the pan football team.

Hell, bring on the mormons...they can at least drive everybody home after the game...plus the BYU campus is farther south than WVU's.

Please God, anybody but Boise St east.

WVU is ranked 14th in all-time football winning % ahead of most SEC schools including our newest member. They are in the top 20 in merchandise sales ahead of Auburn. Behind only Ala, UF, LSU, UGA, and Tenn. So they must have a lot of fans. I dont think they are a bad fit. And they have a good basketball program.

WVU is clearly not the first choice, but to say they bring nothing is stupid. For the 50 millionth time, its not a descion based on recent football success, but even there, WVU has been pretty decent over the last 20 or so years.

ETA: the last 6 years: WVU has 11,11,11,9,9,9 wins and 2 BCS bowl wins. That's more BCS bowl wins than Bama has over the same time

Actually they have just as many BCS bowl wins as Alabama period

WVU is actually a fairly successful program all time.

Although, they do own the dubious honor of being the all time winningest team without a mythical national title to show for it.

Boise State will challenge this record shortly.

I know WVU will bring a LITTLE something to the table, but there are MUCH better choices out there.

WVU brings more to the table than half the SEC in terms of football, basketball, and merchanise sales (which loosely translates into TV ratings). With these three factors you could argue they're are ahead of Vandy, USC, Miss, MSU, Arkansas, and Texas A&M. I see nothing wrong with a team that will average out to middle of the road in the SEC.

define out there? Good chance no one will leave the ACC, so while in a perfect world, someone like UNC might be the best option, they are not "out there" if they are not looking to leave the ACC.

No one was "looking" to leave the big east, but Syr and Pitt did.

Just because no one has stated "we are looking to leave the conference", doesn't mean NO ONE is looking at leaving.

Texas Tech is in the top 25 of merchandise sales Top25 Merch sales

And they have a more "dynamic" basketball team.

Didn't the ACC just vote increase the buy out to leave?
The Big East has always been somewhat unstable because of different memembers in different sports, they also lost 3 memebers recently, unlike the ACC.

The only realistic option I could see from the ACC is Va Tech. UNC is not going to leave and Clemson and FSU are in markets we already cover plus USCe and UF will try to stop them from coming.

WVU has been playing D1 FB a lot longer than 1996, plus, unlike Idaho, West Va borders the SEC. To say WVU brings nothing in terms of on field success is flat out wrong.

I'm just pointing how little it means to be the #n ranked team in all time winning % if you play in the Big East, as well as FCS/WAC/MWC.

being 14th all time when you've been playing for 100 years is different than being #1 having played D1 FB for 15 years. The point of bring up WVU's all time winning rank was to refute the stupid comment that they bring nothing football wise.

Buyout up to 20 mill, they wanted to bump it higher, 30+ million. That was voted down.

We don't know which team/s the SEC is talking to or looking at. But the league can do A LOT BETTER than WVU.

Just for geography purposes. States bordering SEC country.

7-5 in a crappy conf, is not what I would call "on field success". That is WVU's avg.

694-454-45

The big east has not deserved AQ status for a few years now.

Boise St's all-time winning % going back to the 60's is not #1 but would be #5 or #6 :)

Bosie St merchandise is #46 nowhere near the following of WVU (#15). Anyone heard of Broncos basketball??

Anyways, what does the two MS schools and Vandy bring to the table? Crap, then just wait for OU, UT, or ND if you want a worldbeater.

That flash in the pan football team has been ranked the third longest currently and had 3 top 7 finishes in a row. They also almost busted into the BCS twice before anyone else even sniffed it (both prior to that three year span). They had 108 wins from 2000-2010. Best win percentage from 2000-2010:

Boise State: 124-18 (.873)
Oklahoma: 122-26 (.824)
Texas: 115-26 (.815)
Ohio State: 114-26 (.814)
TCU: 108-29 (.788)
LSU: 110-33 (.769)
Virginia Tech: 110-35 (.759)
Southern Cal: 96-31 (.756)
Florida: 108-35 (.755)
Georgia: 104-38 (.732)

Say what you want about strength of schedule regarding lots of the teams up there, especially Boise and TCU, but they're not flashes in the pan. At worst, they've consistently won against lesser competition. Hell, even if you assume TCU would've lost 2 more games a year as members of the Big 12 to Texas and OU and tack on the correct number of wins and losses (still giving credit for TCUs win in Norman in 2005 and giving them 21 more losses) they would've been 90-47, which is still pretty damn good.

They are already in, they don't need to bring anything.

Not looking for a world beater, but if a crap team is coming as #14, bring some goods. I already stated Maryland. Crap team, loads of extras. WVU, crap team, no extras.

Calm down Francis, I would LOVE to have TCU be team #14.

But nobody really thought about TCU football until the mid 90's.

So for those looking at 100 yr football history, TCU would be a recent addition/return to "good" football.

Maybe "flash in the pan" was a poor phrase to choose. Apologies to the TCU fans.

Great, glad to have you on board. And please don't call me Francis, because I go by Frank. Only my grandmother calls me Francis.

Yeah, unless you lived in the late 1950s or earlier, you've only known TCU to struggle up until about 1998. Considering that was just 13 seasons ago and the following they have and ratings they get when they play even against Baylor, SMU, BYU, and Utah, you can only imagine how they would do in ratings and following with SEC opponents and exposure.

TCU also just so happens to be in a city that has 600,000 people and is projected to double by 2030. That's just Fort Worth proper and doesn't include the greater metro area that represents the 5th largest DMA in the nation (DFW).

It's okay, I just wanted to set the record straight. Bash the competition all you want, but winning has been consistent since 1998 and Dennis Franchione for the most part.
