I know this is a day old now, but I did a search and didn't find this article posted anywhere else. Definitely the best read to date regarding expansion.

When you read the views of outsiders, you start to realize just how the SEC is seen by the outside world.

In the past couple of days a Florida columnist has said that Florida State should stay in the ACC because the SEC is too dang tough. A Virginia columnist wrote the same with regards to Virginia Tech this morning.

First of all, of course the SEC is tough. It has the reputation of being the best football conference in America for a reason.

But there’s a difference between being tough and being “too tough.”

With the news yesterday that Southern Cal would be stripped of its 2004 BCS championship, most logical people will look back on that season and remember that undefeated Auburn didn’t even get a crack at the national title. Whether they receive any way-too-late recognition or not, the Tigers are now the de facto titlists for 2004.

Two years after ‘04, Florida won the title. Then came LSU. Florida won another the next year. Followed by Alabama last season.

And the SEC is too tough? Check out these facts:

Article is stupid. If you aren't the best team in the country and you play in the ACC all you have to do is win the one bowl game to win the NC. Being sucky in the SEC isn't condusive to winning it all because if your aren't pretty damn good you don't get to play for the championship.

So just being in the SEC doesn't help a team that can't compete with the SEC big dogs to win anything.

Let me say it this way. Years ago OKLA and Nebraska were both very good. They would go undeafeated each and meet each other. Whoever won that game was headed to a bowl game that would determine if they were voted number one!

Put those NC teams in a tough conf. those years and they don't win nearly as many national championships.

Agree. And VT in particular should consider this aspect if they do get a SEC invite. The truth is VT probably has a better chance of winning a NC in the ACC.

But now to win a NC all those teams will have to beat a battle-tested SEC juggernaut in the MNCG. We've seen how that's gone...
