Frank Wilson should take the Tulane job if the money is good. They have a new stadium and facilities so there is an upside and the expectations are low. Six wins and some bowl games is enough at Tulane. Get 7 or 8 wins and he moves on. Dantonio never got more than 8 wins at Cincinnati.

If it doesn't work out FW will get a job at a SEC school as a position coach. Bobby Williams didn't work out at MSU and he was a position coach and he has turned out okay with Nick.

@FletcherMackel: I was informed by Green Wave booster "if Barbara Burke becomes Tulane AD, Rob Ryan is a candidate to become head coach." @footballscoop

That would be highly entertaining.

Just when I think Toolame couldn't get any dumber

ETA: After the disaster called CJ, Tulane needs to hire someone with HC experience. They want Babers from Bowling Green. Burke hired him to be the head coach at Eastern Illinois, but I think he takes a bigger job. If they miss on Babers they need to go the FCS route. McNeese's coach or Richmond's head coaches would do well at Tulane if (big if) Tulane is willing to give them what they need.

The source is Fletcher Mackel quoting a Greeniebacker.
There are other Fbs coaches they should go after first. Most are likely secondary choices for schools in Lowe conferences. Throw $2 mill at them and see if they bite. That's what it will take.

Why would Tulane hire another career (so far) position coach with zero coordinator or head coaching experience?

That has been the biggest downfall of Curtis Johnson. It has been clear he was in over his head since day one but he pulled off a bowl game somehow. If a person has watched Tulane play you can tell by crazy coaching decisions he was not ready and the team is poorly coached overall. Certain areas are not but overall as a team, a program, not so well organized.

D011ahbi11, Keith Johnson has never coached at Tulane.
You must mean former WR Coach Keith Williams who left last year for Nebraska

IMO Tulane hasn't helped a coach since Tommy and Rich Rod in 1998.

I'm not anti-Tulane btw. I just think it's a dead end job right now.

WTF dude? Tommy and Rich Rod were the only good coaches that Tulane has had in the last 20 years.

It's in the middle of a great recruiting area and is a good school. They should be able to get decent players, not LSU caliber but then they aren't playing in the Fn SEC they are playing against Army and UCF.

And they are in a conference where it should be easy to win for a good up and coming coach or OC. CJ and Scelfo were Fn brain dead.

Tulane is just as good a job as Houston or Memphis and Herman and Fuente are moving on up. You just need to be good coach and Tulane would be just as good a stepping stone as other schools in the conference. They've got good facilities and a new campus stadium.

Overall they are in a better position than they were ten years ago but I think the admin is too cheap to compete with some of the other schools in the conference to get a good coach.

The other thing Tulane needs to get over is the fact that they are a stepping stone. They got their panties in a bunch when Mack Brown went to N.C. and Bowden bolted for Clemson after each only being there for 3 years or so. They need to wake up to reality and just hire the best coaches they can and be happy to get a few winning seasons out of them.

Instead Tulane hires retards like Scelfo and CJ or old retired, out of it coaches like Toledo in hopes that they'll be there for 15 years. Sure they'll be there for a long time because they suck nobody wants them. They should've hired Rich Rod as HC after Bowden left but they were scared that he was going to leave for W.V. after a couple of years. Idiots, they could've had another couple winning seasons and fun to watch football instead of that abortion of a program Scelfo ran.

Anyone who takes the Tulane job and wins/gets bowl eligible is going to be moving up the food chain. It certainly isn't a dead end job.

Yeah I forgot about that. He beat LSU and got Tulane to the Liberty Bowl. And then went out to the PAC-10 at UofA and USC. I still have some VHS tapes with LSU game in the dome and Penn State in the Liberty Bowl.

I grew up being a Tulane fan and going to since my dad was an alum we had season tickets for years. I loved that team with Roch Hontas, Alton Alexis, Reggie Reginelli, Rodney Holman and that canadian kicker who played for Detroit.

I was totally blown away by the atmosphere in Tiger Stadium at night even during the Curley years when I went to college at LSU. It was a total shock coming from the usual crowd of 5000 in the cavernous Dome at a Tulane game that I was used to.

Curtis has recruited pretty well for Tulane over the years. He even lowered the academic standards for student athletes at Tulane. He's also done a lot for Tulane student athletes during his reign - better facilities, benefits, etc. However, the fact of the matter is that Tulane's offense has ranked near dead last in each of his four years. When you play in a score-happy conference and you're considered an "offensive guru" (former Saints WR coach), you have to put some points on the board. Tulane's defense has been the only bright spot and is the only reason Curtis wasn't fired quicker.

@ScottDKushner: Sources: #Tulane's coaching hire will be centered around who its AD is. But Dino Babers and Kendal Briles will be involved in this search.
