He makes 4 million a year without lofty expectations. He's setting a new standard in Starkville. The facilities there are now as good as any in the SEC. Not to mention when Geoff Collins left to go to Florida he called it a lateral move. Why would he make a "lateral move" himself?

Dan Mullen is true maroon.

He's reached his ceiling at MSU. If he has lofty career goals, then he'll have to step it up to a power school that has more natural resources. With Dak leaving after this season, his stock won't be any higher.

I can tell you've never been to Starkville.

If he leaves it'll be to the NFL or to a huge contract to a school like Texas or USC.

For the challenge and a chance to play on a level field with the big boys.

He had the best roster that can be recruited to Miss State last year and still did not win the SEC West.

You'd be surprised.

While it's not my cup of tea, Dan Mullen appears to like it there.

I don't see him leaving and I definitely don't think he's coming to LSU.

They love him there, his family seems to really like it, and he has another potential stud QB he is developing. He does a really good job in my opinion and isn't going anywhere.

seems like it would be very difficult to maintain success at msu, or to ever get to the next level. Prescott graduating this year means he might want to get out while he can.
Probably wouldn't be Lsu's first choice but I think he'd be very interested if offered.

My take on him is he learned from Urban and his time at Florida that it's easier to be the hunter than the hunted.

Yep. People put him down but field competitive teams with far less talent than Bama, LSU, and Florida. I think he would do well.

You've got to be very careful about this type of mindset. I remember when Curly came to LSU. Some of his press conferences, it seemed like he treated playing and beating Auburn, for example, to be some type of heroic effort, like LSU winning would be a huge upset.

You don't want to bring that here. LSU should view any game as winnable. You want a guy to instill confidence to his team, not to treat beating someone like it's unexpected.

Lateral move my arse. If he could do what he did at Miss St, imagine him at LSU with Louisiana recruits. He already scrapes the barrel of Florida, Texas, Louisiana, Tennessee and Alabama and wins 9-10 games at Miss St.

What if he gets a recruiting base all to himself in Louisiana? He can also actually get top out of state talent to come to LSU, ie, actually utilize his connects from Florida. Miss St isn't pulling in any top of the line out of state recruits and it hasn't happened in 6 years.

Miss St is not a place where you can win football championships. They aren't going to pay you 5+ mill and you get recognized as an elite coach if you succeed. Everything is better at LSU than Miss St.

Being content with 10 wins at Miss St is about as far as he can climb there.

I don't think he will leave but for a somewhat different reason. His contract averages 4.5 million a year over the next 4. The buyout is hefty, and we would counter with more than that if he got an offer.

LSU has more money, but in this case it just doesn't matter. Because his value is subjective. He's proven he can win here, which makes him worth more to us than other schools.

Can you win the bidding war? Yes. Is it worth it to you? I'm going to say no. I don't think you're going to pay 5 million or more for a coach without a championship on his resume.
