Seems like he checks a lot of the boxes in the qualities of a coach we are looking for.

relatively young at 45. Comes from a very dynamic offense background. Hasn't been the most successful at W Virginia (but consider the limitations of the school he is at), but his team is 6-1 so far this year. He has had a good bit of experience at a mid tier power 5 conference school which is the knock against a lot of our candidates (that they don't have experience). Was mentioned in the SBNation article as a top candidate for the job. Why not more buzz among our fan base for him? Considering his current salary (we can offer a lot more) and the school he is at, it seems we would be able to land him if we want him. Just think what he could do with LSU talent instead of W Virginia talent.

He was on the verge of getting fired before this season.

He's a decent candidate, much better than keeping O, but did regress at WV until this year & doesn't really seem to be a dynamic recruiter

I'd love to know some stories of how he's living at WVU, but I remember hearing he's basically a raging drunk who lives in a hotel and bangs co-eds. Would be awesome to see at LSU, but he probably needs to be at a lower profile program.

He hasn't been as successful in the Big 12 as you think. His offensive Big 12 rankings:

2016 8th Record 6-1 Currently
2015 6th Record 8-5
2014 5th Record 7-6
2013 7th Record 4-8

He's having a good year, but it took him awhile. That might be expected when making that transition, but we can't just hire the guy because of offense. And besides this year, his results have not been that good. If that's our basis, we might as well hire Kliff Kingsbury. He's been far more successful on offense:

2016 1st Record 4-4 Currently
2015 2nd Record 7-6
2014 6th Record 4-8
2013 3rd Record 8-5

Other than so far this year, the only real difference between the two is that Kliff has been more successful on offense.

My dream scenario if we can't get Jimbo would be keeping Aranda as HC and bringing in Kliff as a OC if he's fired at Texas Tech. He would have to continue to lose this year for Tech to even consider firing him though.

LSU would be a great place for him to spend a few years and get his name back in the limelight.

Neither Holgorsen nor Kingsbury should be considered.

As head coach? I hope it doesn't come to that. But Kliff as OC would be a home run.

Anyone thinking a HC at WVU or TTech would go take an OC position at a "major program" apparently doesn't understand that WVU and TTech are major programs. Are they top tier programs, of course not. But, you don't go from being a HC at a power 5 conference school to OC at another. Heck, even PJ Fleck would laugh LSU out of the room if someone asked him to take a coordinator position.

He might if he were fired. That's probably unlikely unless he completely falls apart down the stretch.

Look at Kiffin. Some people think Strong might take a step back and become a defensive coordinator at a big program if he's fired at Texas.

You have two choices when you're fired from a big HC job. You can try to get a job at a smaller program as HC, or you can become a coordinator at a big program if you were a successful one prior to becoming a head coach. I'm just saying it's possible.

ETA: At the beginning of the season, Auburn was not happy with Gus. He's doing great now, but if he ever were to get fired, I think he would probably become a coordinator in the SEC before being a HC in a small program. I just think his best chance at success and getting his name out there again is to go back to doing what he does best. Kiffin is back to being a big name for a HC job because he did this. It's not a bad choice.

There are literately tons of examples of coaches being fired and going back to doing what they did prior to becoming a head coach.

Good to see you're still hanging around. Don't mind the riff raff around here. They're just assholes by nature, and talk shite unless you're telling them what they want to hear.
