Why doesn't A&M test the waters for Hermann or a new coach now?

With the program having a lot of negative momentum, and Sumlin going to be a lame duck in 2016, it would take a monster 2016 to save his job.

Why risk having a shitty 2016 and sending the program even deeper into the ditch, after opening a new stadium?

You never know. If Houston gets blown out in the Peach Bowl that will slow their momentum and maybe he will be looking to jump ship, if he can get a $5 million deal.

What is Herman's buyout? Firing Sumlin plus paying that could be pretty pricey but I agree we should cut bait now

Why would aTm want to go down that road again?

Plus Hermann really isn't proven yet tbh.

If we came in with a strong offer I think he would seriously consider it but who knows. He only coached for a year at UT I thought but maybe there's a stronger connection there

this (plus w/oil being down our money whipping days are on pause)

plus I think A&M would be pretty gun shy about taking another Coog High coach.

If A&M fires Sumlin now they end up w/a guy like Lane Kiffin or Mike Leach. No chance they could pull a proven coach or big up and comer at this point.

Herman was at Texas for two years as a Mack Brown graduate assistant and got his masters degree there.

His buyout is $2.25 million. Hardly anything.

At least we're only paying for one coach right now.

They're still paying for Mack Brown, Deloss Dodds, and Steve Patterson's buyouts.

Bingo.

Herman just did an interview about taking one of the open positions. He appears to be pretty happy to sit tight and wait for what he's looking for next.

quote:

"I like winning, Doug. Our league has separated itself as the premier non Power 5 conference in the country and the way the system is set up currently, if you win the AAC you're going to go to a New Years Six bowl game. I think that if you're not at one of those schools that can perpetually compete for a national championship then winning 11, 12, 13, 14 ballgames a year, a lot of trophies, a lot of rings, and New Years Day bowl games all in the greatest city on Earth, I think that's a pretty enticing endeavor.

I don't think that there are many places, at least not the ones that called me, that you can say, 'Hey, if we go win em' all, or win all but one or two, then we're gonna go to the playoff and have a chance for the national championship.' ... Rather than toil through 7-5 and 8-4 seasons, maybe on your way where a certain school has a ceiling, this place has no ceiling -- the ceiling here is undefeated, really, and if undefeated doesn't get us in the Final Four I understand that. ... Most every school save for eight to ten in the entire country ... the ceiling is not that."

Maybe he would take our job and maybe not but all interviews like the one you posted have to be taken with a huge grain of salt. I consider A&M a level above South Carolina as a job.

He's not going to say "Man I love UH but if UT or OSU come calling I'll be leaving".

You may, but look at what Herman said. He made it pretty clear that he doesn't want to go 8-4/7-5 every year. That's been aTm's wheelhouse every year save one or two for the the last decade.

He sounds like he doesn't want the competition that the SEC would include. Some guys don't want that meat grinder.

How many coaches from UH is A&M going to hire? If Herman doesn't work out or leaves will they just take whoever replaces him for the Cougs?
