re: Why do people assume that Kiffin without Saban's control will be a great OC?Posted by deuceiswild on 11/29/16 at 2:26 pm to Geauxgurt

I am not saying he won't do well, but I simply think his current success these past 3 years has largely been a product of the reins Saban has put on him.
I think Kiffin is one of the two or three best OC’s LSU can hire right now. That said, I think Kiffin’s (and his QBs for that matter) success can be more attributed to Bamas O-Line rather than “Sabans reigns”

As good as our defense played, he had a terrible game plan vs us. We had our DBs playing downhill too often, and that's really what they are great at.

Why is that?

What you think about Nussmeier? High touted with Bama, left the fold, was average at Michigan, now works with McElwain.

My fear exactly. Saban is making these coordinators. They leave, and they become marginal
Some OCs under Saban include:
Jimbo Fisher
Jim McElwain
Major Applewhite

1.McElwain(2)
2.Doug Nussmeier(1)
3.Kiffin(1-1)
Saban’s Crimson Tide won 4 national titles and another final 4 appearance(2014) with 3 different offensive coordinators.
McElwain & Doug Nussmeier are now teamed up at Florida.
A possibility of Stark taking over at bama depending on what kiffin does.

From several years of watching them in the PAC - a sober Sark is a marginally better playcaller than Kiffin. Kiffin is probably a better offensive mind, but he calls plays like it's a Playstation game and does bizarre stuff at random. Sark's not that creative but he sets stuff up and rarely goes away from something that's working. I've seen Kiffin do exactly that several times for no apparent reason.

Kiffin is an elite recruiter and one of the better play callers in football. Whether we like him as a person or not, those two things are facts. I don't care if our coaches are a-holes. They don't get paid to be nice. You play to win the game

I believe Kiffin has done a great job, but Nick knows his offense inside and out. Not the first place I would look for cracking Bama's defensive code.

And lane knows bamas defense and how to attack it

Do you think Al Davis or Nick Saban hired Kiffin thinking he was something other than pretty damn good?
