What would a realistic candidate list look like for LSU fans?

With heat turned up on Miles, I'm curious what a list of top candidates for LSU would look like (that's within reason). Not the John Harbaugh type home run swings, but a list that would make sense. Give me 2 or 3 guys who are stretch candidates that would probably say no and want a raise (like Briles Jimbo or Dabo) then 2 or 3 guys who are at much lower profile jobs that you could have (Fuente, Herman, etc)

I still think Patterson would be in play. Maybe I'm delusional, but coming to LSU and playing with the big boys would get him truly noticed - maybe even for NFL consideration. He's done well with TCU though and have all the new amenities a coach could ask for.

Who do you think would be in play?

You could maybe get Jimbo, but for argument's sake we'll say he's off the table.

You're likely looking at a Larry Fedora type hire. Pat Fitzgerald if you're really lucky (I'm not sure he will ever leave NU though)

Briles isn't coming here, Dabo isn't coming here, Patterson isn't coming here.

Would love to get James Franklin even though he just left Vandy a couple years ago. Though it does bring back Dinardo memories

For the record I would take Fitzgerald over Miles right now and feel good about it.

Fedora is a risky hire but I think Alleva would hire someone from the tier of program as opposed to a Justin Fuente or something at a true mid-major.

Jimbo is probably the most likely of the three I listed.

I'm not sure Patterson or Briles are in play, but maybe I'm wrong. Texas came at both (supposedly) with no success, but perhaps one would jump at LSU now, especially if they feel their ceiling is limited by the Big 12. I think both are compensated REALLY well so it would have to be for a reason other than money

There's no denying LSU is an elite job, it's just so tough to pull coaches from other top 20-30ish jobs. Those of you who want a new coach, do you want a spread offensive guy? Stay pro style? Just curious

I was a coach who will get the best players he can and then tailor the scheme to fit what they do.

Jon Gruden gets paid $6.5M at ESPN.

Not that he would leave the announcers booth, but I'm wondering: could LSU afford a head coach at $6.5M if Gruden did want the job?

(Note: I'm not saying Gruden is realistic, just asking a question.)

Jimbo is realistic and hopefully would be the first phone call, but i think fsu could keep him with a raise and the fact that the path to the playoffs is nowhere near as daunting over there. jimbo loved(s) LSU and i think it would be a similar situation to mile sin 2007 with UM where he is legit on the fence and could go either way.

doubt patterson would come with the backing he has at TCU. something scares me about briles and without looking i think he's getting kind of old.

i think whittingham and fitzgerald would be in the mix. you'd maybe gauge the interest of harbaugh or omar epps. dantonio would probably be on my short list too.

i rate herman slightly higher than fuente.

don't really want to go full spread. pro style with multiple looks to establish the run. more single back, ace type formations less 22 iform

Briles is never leaving the State of Texas.

Any one of these hires is a slam dunk, but ... come on. You don't really think Mike Tomlin would go to LSU, do you?

not full spread for me.

give me someone who is pro-style with multiple sets. Someone who can curate a QB and play to his strengths.

Give me an offensive system that conforms plays to the players' strengths rather than having the players conform to the system.
