So I've been wondering this and haven't seen this brought up too much, but me, like many others within the fan base were obviously pissed to see Alleva hire O. But here's the question I've been wondering. Would we all have been as pissed if he actually conducted a search and interviewed multiple coaches? Personally, while I still would've been pissed, I don't think I would have been as pissed as I was

A coaching search would have made it look like the administration didn't waste three months. But it's over, hopefully O can prove everybody wrong.

A coaching search would have made it look like you are at least trying to find a decent coach. Kind of like Texas 3 years ago, yea they ended up with Strong but he was way down their original list.

I doubt this would make the fans any less pissed off though.

1) It would let the fan base know that the AD was actually doing his job and not asleep at the wheel.
2) I doubt O would be hired if a committee brought Alleva coaching options. Hell, I doubt O should have even been an option suggested by a comittee.
3) If O was hired, it would have brought some legitimacy to his hiring. Right now everyone who doesn't like him as a coach will always think this was a lazy move by the AD.
4) Did I mention that it would show the AD was doing his job and not coasting.
5) It may instill some confidence in the fan base that Alleva is learning and not making stupid mistakes like he made with the firing of Miles, the bungling of the softball coach hire, the hiring of Trent Johnson and Johnny Jones.
6) Did I make it clear that it's his job?!?!
7) It would have changed the debate from "we should have looked at ..." to "why didn't we hire that second or third guy the committee recommended?"
8) DO YOUR DAMN JOB ALLEVA!!!

FIFY. If you don't think a coaching search was made, then you don't know how things work. For 3 months every agent that had a coach interested in the job contacted LSU. LSU contacted every agent of coaches they were interested in. The reason Miles was fired in September was to put notice to the coaching community that job is open and we're looking for the next coach. This is why LSU was able to make their decision as early as they had. You can agree or disagree with the choice as much as you want, but just because everything wasn't out in the open for the entire world to see doesn't mean a coaching search wasn't made.

There were multiple reports they didn't do any of this until after the Florida loss because they were planning to hand it to Orgeron. Sorry, but Alleva really is that bad.

There was also a ticker all Thanksgiving night on ESPN that LSU was about to announce Herman as the next head coach. Are all "reports" believable?

If you're telling me there WAS a coaching search and we settled on O, then that is even worse in my mind. No way was he the best candidate for the job. And if we were contacting coaches and they were contacting us, how do we end up with O? This board has come up with better candidates. No way we struck out on that many good candidates. And while some reports were wrong, no way it's kept under wraps that we were in contact with a bunch of coaching candidates. Too hard to hide a coaching search in this day and age. Hell, look at our OC search. Everyone knew everything that was going on.

Face it, Alleva did nothing. He may have contacted Herman and Fisher's people, but he didn't do an actual coaching search.

I don't doubt this happened, but there were no actual interviews done with the coaches themselves. You can learn a lot about a person, both positive and negative, sitting down and speaking with them. That's where the laziness comes in to this situation. You can't make a career defining hire without actually meeting with people.

A coaching search hired Curly f****ng Hallman.
There are no guarantees. I don't care for Alleva. I thought the hiring was bungled and we got used to get others jobs/raises.
Didn't feel great about hiring Orgeron then. I'm feeling better now
Hopefully I'll feel even better next year.... But there are no guarantees

What would it have hurt? We weren't going to lose CEO. Most coaches especially from top tier programs aren't being hired in November. It would be nice too know who/agent was contacted or contacted LSU and said they outright weren't interested. Wonder if NSA recorded Alleva's calls? lol
