It has become a touchstone of faith among LSU fans that if O gets the job that Aranda will just be a good soldier and work for the guy that used to be his subordinate. Who says he doesn't get an offer after the season? Let's face it, if LSU finishes strong enough that O gets the offer than the defense has performed well enough for Aranda to be an attractive candidate. Why the assumption he just stays here?

If O doesn't get the nod, there is a good chance the next guy brings his own guy in.

Part of me would rather promote Aranda to HC if the big names say no. Good intellegent X's and O's coach. He'd be a good program maintainer.

I think that person would be foolish to remove Aranda if he wants to stay. Also, i thought his contract was independent from the rest of the staff. Would it cost to make him go away? If so, how much sense does that make to pay aranda to leave?

Just a matter of time. You don't produce at his level and not get offers.

Part of the reason why this whole plan of O being the HC is a house of cards.

"Oh we'll just hire another top assistant."

What if we don't?

Aranda is probably going to make an amazing HC sooner or later. Hopefully later rather than sooner. I'm all aboard the "doing whatever it takes to keep Aranda as long as possible" train!

Let Coach O have it for 5 years and make Aranda the highest paid asst with the Head Coach in Waiting tag.

1. its stupid to assume we are just in some holding pattern and no one is talking to each other. 2. I would be O has talked with Aranda over plans if O is given the job. O had a plan for taking over and he put it into place.

3. any head coach that we bring in better have a sure fire person that is better than Aranda or we shouldn't be considering them, because they aren't very smart to want to get rid of one of the best dc in the country.

4. its not uncommon for some staff to stay on. It happened when Les came in and he kept jimbo. Our staff is pretty stout that a smart coach is going to try and keep some.

This is a great point. We don't know if O will make the right hires at OC and, in the not too distant future, DC. He will have a big budget but a CEO-type head coach has to get the coordinators right every time.

we will, its not hard for LSU to hire top assistants. we pay better than anyone.

Les abused this by trying to help his friends.

I think its more likely than not that he would make the correct hires. He has good contacts and Ed O isn't a stubborn clown like les.

I am extremely impressed with virtually everything he has done since taking over. My only complaint would be the play action turned fumble late in the half last night. The HC needs to make sure the proper strategies are used situationally. But he will be tested the rest of the way in this manner to show whether he can handle executive decisions in close games (I'm sure he'll do better than Les but we need much better than that).

Looking at his resume, he was a graduate assistant at Texas Tech and then coached three years at Houston under Briles. I've got to imagine that UH is looking at him as a possible replacement for Herman if he leaves, and if I was Aranda I'd take it. Might also be a spot back at Houston for Briles as an OC under his old pupil. Could make a lethal combination.
