1) If Notre Dame has a coaching vacancy
2) If Southern Cal has a coaching vacancy
3) If Texas has a coaching vacancy
4) If Oklahoma has a coaching vacancy
5) If Auburn has a coaching vacancy

Nos. 1-4 are historically "blueblood" programs, which LSU is not. LSU may be able to convince coaching candidates that LSU is a better choice than Oklahoma as that part of the country is increasingly being viewed by recruits as boring "flyover country" while LSU has a guaranteed recruiting base in nearby New Orleans. Most coaches would also probably prefer to coach at LSU than Auburn (unless they are actually from the state of Alabama, are an Auburn grad, etc.).

The best candidates would definitely choose nos. 1-3, however. I can't see LSU outbidding Texas for a coach and probably not Notre Dame or USC either. The good news for LSU is that some or all of these coaching positions are not guaranteed to open up.

Why would I go to Notre Dame? USC and Texas are the only ones on your list I could see someone choosing over LSU.

Kids don't care about the history of a program anymore.

OU won't have one.

AU is no where near LSU

I don't think Texas will open

Southern Cal may, or may not actually.. and even if they do.. they have been reeling through multiple coaches

People like trophies.

And it's not just history. It's name brand. Iconic recognizability goes a long way

there's a market for head coaches. it'll keep going up. lsu and about 15-20 other teams can pay just as much as anyone else for a coach. salary isn't an object, it pretty much boils down to where the coach wants to be.

LSU's job is open right now. That's the advantage LSU has. And programs 1-4 may be historically rich in tradition and great jobs, but LSU is probably the second best job or maybe even the best in college football right now because of the talent rich state of LA and all the other intangibles like stadium, fanbase, athletic facilities, etc.

I don't disagree with your analysis and makes good points

But really you have to look at who we might be going after and the likelihood that those jobs would want them or they want the job

So Herman would probably consider Texas a better gig than LSU. Maybe not but probably.

Jimbo. Would ND , USC or Texas be attractive to him. Maybe Texas. Would they be interested in him. Maybe ND or Texas

Kiffen. ND Probbaly won't be interested. Texas likely not interested USC definitely not interested . Kiffen no interest in USC. Would probbaly take Texas and ND over LSU. But see above

Briles Texas may be interested. ND No way. USC maybe. Briles. Would he want USC over LSU. Nah

Fedora. My guess is he takes any of those three jobs before LSU. And I would think all three would have interest in him

Just my take. But you really have to look at who LSU wants before you can say those three jobs would grab them before LSU

LSU is historically better than Auburn in pretty much every category other than bowl winning percentage and heisman winners, check Winsipedia. Plus, Auburn has to compete in-state with Alabama, LSU competes with no one in-state.

Don't be a complete idiot. No coach cares about "blueblood" programs. They care about where they can win.

LSU transformed Nick Saban from a coach who hadn't really made it into the Big 10 into a national champion.

Even Les Miles was able to win 112 games here.

That wouldn't have happened at most other blublood schools. Please

Brian Kelly is the only Coach since Lou Holtz to make Notre Dame relevant.

Oklahoma is not replacing Bob Stoops this year.

Southern Cal hasn't been relevant since Pete Caroll left.

Why are people always discounting LSU. I ain't saying we have the best program in college football, but we are the third most profitable, pay our assistants the best in college football, have great facilities and great fan support.

Speaking of fan support, before some idiot starts knocking LSU's fan support, I think a quick scan of major programs have the same good and bad problems with fan support as LSU does, but LSU is worldwide in fan support.

What's not to like?

USC and Texas are the best jobs in college football.

Notre Dame? Total dog, because you can't recruit good enough players that can get the academics to get into the school. Oklahoma? No natural recruiting base. Auburn? Alabama takes half the in-state players.

LSU is a top-5 job, no matter what jobs are / are not available in any given year.

A 17 year old potential recruit was how old the last time LSU had a losing season?

In 2004 that recruit was 5 years old. Please tell me about how many players Notre Dame placed in the NFL since that year LSu won the second MNC.
