Herman will have NFL teams sniffing around every year. You will inevitably be searching for a new coach within 5 years. It'll be Saban all over again.

Jimbo would be a lifer or at the very least, here for 10 years. He will win multiple titles here. It really is an easy decision IMO

So we get 5 solid years and a championship?

Man that would suck.

Jimbo has proved he can run a major program and win NC's.

Bunch of geniuses in this thread. Only one has actually done anything. The other is the hot commodity and will only view LSU as a steppingstone. The other views it as a destination.

This is an easy call.

Compared with 4 Sec titles and 2 NCs with Jimbo over 10 years?

Not sure where everyone has gotten to this idea that Herman is THAT much better if a Head Coach than Jimbo.

Both are great. Pretty much equal other than Jimbo having a longer track record.

He is from Urban right?

Tell me again how many year Urban spent in the NFL? I will wait. The answer is 0 I believe..

I don't think coaches of prestige programs are lining up to go to the NFL as often any more..

Have you put the kiss of death on either Jimbo or Herman yet?

well we will see how much of a destination he views it as, if Herman turns it down. If he views it as as great destination as you seem to believe then he will leave Florida St for LSU.

Fisher is an upgrade over Miles IMO and would do pretty well at LSU, as would quite a few coaches. We would have to see if he would do as well at LSU as he did at Florida ST. Herman would definitely do better at LSU than he did at Houston and he has HOuston (that's HOUSTON) ranked #6 in the country right now. Think of what kind of recruiting classes a coach like Herman could bring in at LSU.

it's hard to say who is better out the 2.jimbo has a better resume with titles, but herman has only been head coach for 1.5 years now, but either one would be a slam dunk hire

If they were so close last yr, i dont see any reason not to finish the deal this time around.

Only makes sense.

Herman would be great. I just think for where we are as a program. Jimbo will end up being the hire and the right choice. If given the option of the 2, I would choose Jimbo.

For one thing, he has walked into this same situation before of replacing a legendary coach. This is extremely tough to do if you look at history. Second, Jimbo seems to excel in the place that we are weakest. QB development and offense. Third, he is a top recruiter. Not saying he is the best. Saying he gets it and wouldn't frick that up. Finally, he would be making a lateral move. So this is it. I just don't think any of us want to go through another fricking coach search in 3-5 years.

That's why I would offer Jimbo first.

I am not sure why anyone would want to coach in the NFL over College. The atmosphere of college football trumps anything the NFL has to offer. Mediocracy will get you more times than not in the in the NFL. Also, it's not like there is a great difference in the salaries of a top tier coach. I would be a career college coach at an institution where you can win consistently and where they would build statues of you, when you are gone.

I think these guys are competitors and the pinnacle of their profession is to win a Super Bowl. Now some get early on they are college coaches and don't worry with NFL, but a lot who have success early decide to give it a whirl. Saban. Butch Davis. Pete Carrol (sorta). Jimmy Johnson. Spurrier. Chip Kelly.
