Lot of big FBS coaching jobs open, but heard today (as others have) that Virginia Tech likely will be the first to fill its vacancy.

While that tweet doesn't say it is Rich Rod, VA Tech sources are saying it is Rich Rod.

Rich went from the highly suspected name to not a candidate to name to be announced soon. Not a surprise since the Fedora stuff and others were just smokescreen while they worked out a contract deal with $4M a year for Rich Rod.

I am part of the Hokie contingent who would be pleased with Rich Rod being hired, but I still have a hard time believing he is the next head coach.

My money is still on someone out of left field.

This would be such a great hire for Tech.

If it is Rich Rod, do you think he convinces Bud Foster to stay?

Why would Foster stay? I thought Rich was married to the 3-3-5?

I would stay in Arizona if I was him, better job IMO.

I would assume Foster would be gone because I was under the assumption that he had gotten a lot of winks and hand shakes about being the next coach after Beamer

I really like Tucson, and Arizona in general, but it ain't for everyone. If Rich Rod really wants to come back east, Va Tech is a fantastic fit.

Meh, the general opinion is Bud doesn't really want to be a HC.

In the even of Foster staying, I would assume Rich Rod had finally come to the conclusion the 3-3-5 as a base defense is not going to be great.

VTech is a better program than AZ. Plus Rich Rod is from that area (region), I wouldn't be surprised if he wanted to get back there.

The only thing AZ has on Tech with regards to Rich Rod is that his daughter is now a cheerleader there.

It seems to me that if Foster wanted to be a HC, he's had several opportunities in the last 5-10 years to leave Tech. I think that door has passed him by at this point.

I disagree. The upside is much higher at VTech, Arizona will always be more a basketball school. There's also so much talent in the VA area where recruiting could be easier for him. He's not getting any of the top recruits in his own state, much less in Cali.

Conspiracy theories if you like them. As you know, Foster flirted with A&M last year, and was discussed what was needed for him to be head coach.

He is the only coach signed past this year at VT, and was supposedly given some names that were people that Whit would look at. He supposedly has a good relationship with Rich Rod and said that we would gladly stay and that would be part of the contingency on hiring Rich Rod.

I for one cannot believe that Rich Rod would accept terms like who would be his DC, even if friends.

And I truly hope Bud goes somewhere he can get the National Championship. I know in the past he has been approached by Richt, Spurrier, etc

I grew up in the area and have always had a soft spot for the Hokies. Rich Rod seems like a pretty vanilla hire to say the least. I kind of hope they find somebody better.

I'd say rich rod is far from Vanilla especially for a school coming off a decade or two of Beamer ball

I think a younger guy like Fuente would be much better. Rod is a charismatic guy but imo his record of success is sort of meh.
