So 22-3 in his first (not even) 2 years as coach isn't good enough for you?

*assuming he holds on tonight
Would beating UConn, Navy and SMU and losing to No. 9 FSU, No. 3 OU and No. 3 Louisville have made his resume more acceptable?

Good because it is Houston

IF LSU can not hire Herman just hire an OC like him, don't need any other coach.

20-28 and trying his best is more our style
Posted on 11/17/16 at 8:39 pm to mattz1122
No, we want the guy that is 20-28, yaw, yaw.

I'm proud of you, bro. I've spent so much time since 2012 arguing on this site about the inefficiencies of Les Miles that I just don't have it in me to keep arguing with many on here. You are saying everything that I would like to say, and many times even better.
Keep fighting the good fight for the next 10-12 days until LSU gets the coach we deserve. No "settling" will do.

Bo Rein was 27-18-1 in a crappy 70's ACC. Many act like he was the Jesus of coaching, yet they bash Herman's resume.

Can't fix stupid people don't even try. He's my number 1 pick but look for him to be at Texas, so doesn't really matter.

What was sumlins record at Houston?
Posted on 11/17/16 at 9:46 pm to lurkr
Somewhat fair comparison. Sumlin was the "it" guy in 2011.
35-17
18-9 in his first two years. Year three was 5-7 because Keenum was hurt.
Inherited Keenum like Herman inherited Ward.
Beat No. 5 Okie State on the road.
Facilities weren't as good at UH back then.
The primary difference under Herman has been the defense, which is world's better. I think the defense may have even improved under Levine with Gibbs at DC. If/when Herman leaves, Orlando could be the next HC. Tonight's performance illustrates why.

If we hire CEO. We better save money for the next coaching search in 3 years.

The only thing acceptable is 25-0 & every win a 77-0 blowout.

Herman is a grade A homerun. Anyone who says otherwise is an idiot.

Thank you Mattz.
I'm just going to be happy if we end up with an 80% winning coach with top 5 recruiting classes.
There is a 60% to 70% chance this coaching change is a failure.

Winning once against a top-10 opponent can sometimes come down to pure luck. If the ranked team is having an off night and your team catches all the breaks, then anything is possible.
However, when your program with inferior resources and talent manages to beat three top-10 programs in less than a year, it is no longer a matter of luck. There is significant skill and scheming involved for a coaching staff to defeat three vastly superior programs. When you realize how dominant Houston was in each of those performances, it makes it all the more impressive.

Herman has won some big games, but I think he's overrated. He may be a great hire, or he could fail miserably. People act like he walked into nothing at UH, but they had plenty of talent there, especially Ward.
That said, his recruiting hasn't been spectactular.
UH in 2013 = 56
UH in 2014 = 76
UH in 2015 = 92 (his first year)
UH in 2016 = 36 (last year)
In reality, we know very little on his long term recruiting ability. That is a big deal, because he's not going to have the talent edge in the SEC games like he does at UH vs teams like SMU and others.
Further more, plenty of guys have looked great at mid-majors and gone to the Power 5 and failed despite beating the big boys like Herman has. Dan Hawkins is an example of this.
Now, Herman is likely a big time boom or bust guy here. It's not that hard to get your guys up for one or two big games a year, and the losses this year are concerning. Also, no offense, but FSU had been an NC winner and playoff team the previous two years. I'd say they weren't as thrilled to be playing in the Peach Bowl last season whereas Houston was in heaven to be there.
It matters.

I'm all for UF canning our garbage staff and hiring Herman. He's Meyer 2.0. I hope LSU hires Fisher or Ed O.
