I can't post this in the SECR for obvious reasons, so I'm bring it here.

I know half a season is not enough to judge him, but I still don't get the hire on UGA's part. He's a great recruiter, but with no HC experience and running Saban's defense, what has he done that made him a candidate at a place like UGA right away?

I know Jimbo Fisher went from OC to HC and succeeded, but I feel like he is the exception.

Short sited people kept in name in the conversation for head coaches, despite his never having done the job and benefitting greatly from Sabans dynasty.

Let this be a lesson for LSU fans that want Kiffin.

I think this is the answer.

Only thing I could think of is that he created some of the best defenses in CFB history over the last few years.

Now I don't think you should judge his abilities after 1 season. At least see what he can do with his own players.

Strangely, the Saban coaching tree is not as impressive as you might imagine it should be. Fisher is the only star of the bunch.

Not even sure you can count Jimbo as a branch of the Saban tree.

2000–2006 LSU (OC/QB)
2007–2009. Florida State(OC/QB)
2010–present Florida State

So he was under saban all 5 years at LSU. Which coaching tree did he come from? List of his coaching stops above.

Not much of a tree to speak of, but Jimbo was clearly brought up mostly under Terry Bowden at Samford and then Auburn.

He was very close to the family, which is why he was brought in as HCIW under Bobby.

Seems to me that Kirby had no connections in college football. His OF and OL coaches are not good. Both were bad hires.

Great question.

Some people think that working with Saban will make a coach Saban. Pro tip: it will not.

That's the argument. Skeptics will say they were Saban's defenses, not his. Muschamp can coach defense FWIW, so his coordinators can benefit.

Kige X 1000. If you hire someone you have to give them an honest chance, three years minimum as a rule.

He was considered to be mini Saban.

Do you think that it's something new to hire an OC or DC without head coaching experience?
