R. C. Slocum: What were Bertman's thoughts in 2005?

This is just a reminisce since much water has flowed under the bridge.
The pickings were relatively slim in 2005. We know about Petrino, Nutt, etc. and Bertman's decision to hire Miles.
I was in the minority but I thought R C Slocum would have been a helluva hire in 2005. He was three-time SWC Coach of the Year and the Aggies' all-time winningest coach. I think he would have succeeded greatly at LSU following Saban. He was pressured to resign after fourteen years following his only .500 season.
Eleven years later it's apparent that being "one of us" is paramount for a HC at LSU. Well, RC was the epitome of that, from Oakdale, played at McNeese, went to high school at West Orange-Stark just across the Sabine. I think he would have been a fantastic recruiter for LSU in Louisiana and Texas.
I remember I was one of the few who felt this way--many were adamantly against Slocum coming to LSU. Were we thinking--again--that any coach in the country would be begging for the job?
What were Bertman's thoughts? This is no slam on Miles--I'm just saying that, without the benefit of hindsight as to what Miles accomplished, that Slocum would have been a great hire.

I got the impression he did it as a favor to George hw bush. you should listen to the interview he did on 104.5. He goes into it.

RC in 1988 was different than then. I have a very good friend that was inducted into TAMU HoF a couple years ago. Sat with RC a long time and he was way past his prime. He ran Les offense that Les ran that got him fired. RC was about defense and running the ball. Ensminger was ironically enough was part of his undoing.

Dude are you serious? The SWC? Wasn't that conference dismantled in '89? Why didn't Tom Landry get a call after Saban? What did Slocum do the following 14 years?

He had been unemployed and out of football for years when Miles was hired.

R.C. Slocum was 60 years old in January of 2005. That's at least one very good reason.

That's rather ironic, considering we just hired a 55 year old career position coach who was 3-21 in the SEC in his one HC stint, which was a miserable failure--and who was sitting at home until Miles hired him in 2014.
How did Slocum's HC accomplishments in 2004 compare to our present HC's in 2016?

Uh ... continued coaching TAMU until 2002, won two Big 12 South titles, and made Kyle Field one of the hardest places to play in the country, losing like 12 home games in 14 years.
Do you know who RCS is, or are you just running your mouth?
Did you honestly think he quit coaching when the SWC folded?

It's been stated many many times. LSU wanting a coach that was still coaching and RC was as old as dirt...
You think ppl bitch about Miles and his offense...RC was Miles before Miles

Yes, that is the only reason he did it.

I've kept up, dumbass.
Your butt buddy thought he quit coaching in 1989.
Congrats though. Over the years, you're in line for the dumbest poster across multiple forums.

Hey congrats. Glad Walmart gives their greeters days off every once in awhile.
I know you're lost without your buddies Beefense and Choctaw, but life is a series of adjustments.
This so speaks to your relevance on and contributions to these forums:

No I knew he still had coaching responsibilities three years before you wanted him to take on a 15 year job coaching the tigers. I did though throw out the 89 because under his list of accomplishments you headline it with two titles in a conference that had been dismantled by the time any of the players you wanted him to coach here in BR were even born. You're an idiot. And so you've shown us he was successful two years after Dinardo's last winning season, what did he do for the next decade and a half?

You are so funny.
You are all butt hurt because Orgeron was hired that you trot out Slocum? Slocum ?
And I love the age references. They are so cutting edge. That really shows desperation for something to say, but a lack of intelligence to come up with something clever.
And what do either Beefense and/or Choctaw have to do with this thread?
You didn't get your way. Too bad. What's next? You hold your breath till you turn blue?

My god. You thought this thread is about hiring Slocum in 2016?
Hey, forget it Gray Tiger. I'm not even going to give you another arse kicking.
I feel sorry for you. I hope your kids and grandkids get you the proper care for your dementia.
