This one is a toughie.

Tulane has a lot going for it, and a lot going against it, it seems.

Pros of the Tulane job
$$$$$$
Brand new stadium
Fertile recruiting grounds
Best G5 conference
Nike contract

Cons of the Tulane job
Lack of fan support
Lack of institutional support
Academic restrictions on recruits

I have no idea why Tulane isn't dominating Louisiana recruiting (outside of the true blue chip prospects who are going to LSU and other SEC schools). New Orleans is the best town in the state and Tulane is the best school in the state.

I do think Tulane may need to hire a "system" coach, such as one who specializes with spread offenses, to mask any talent deficiencies they may have. The spread has worked for small, Southern schools (Memphis, Houston, Southern Miss, etc.)

Remember, Chad Morris, a hot name in coaching changes circles last fall, left a coordinator position at a big time P5 program to become SMU's head coach.

Candidates, IMO
Tommy Bowden
Kendall Briles (OC at Baylor)
Manny Diaz (DC at Mississippi State)
Rhett Lashlee (OC at Auburn)
Todd Monken (HC at Southern Miss)
Rob Ryan (lol Fletcher Mackel)
Frank Wilson

I think Kendal and Lashlee would be horrific hires.

I think you need to get someone that completely understands how to handle bad things, as the rebuild will have major hurdles. Who that is, I am not sure. I think Monken might be willing to take it.

The big question: will Tulane pay more than $1,000,000.00 to secure a good HC?

SMU is also paying him $2m plus incentives.

Is Tulane willing to drop a couple million on a HC?

Why would Morris leave SMU for Tulane?

SMU is in much better shape in infrastructure, just does not have a defense worth a crap.

Why would he take a step down? I don't care what conference Tulane is in. This would definitely be a step down.

I wouldn't be surprised if Tulane went for a Sun Belt HC. Monken won't go to Tulane, so let's just end that speculation right now.

I can see an AAC program being able to poach a HC from the Sun Belt. Tulane paid CJ around 1 million flat, and with an expanding budget I would put this hire around 1.2-1.4 million/year. That is a really lucrative offer to a coach at Appy State or Georgia Southern.

Well Tulane was just paying a shitty coach around 1.3 million, so I'd say yes.

I wasnt talking about Morris leaving for Tulane. I was saying that if Tulane wants to get a hot shot OC like Morris they need to bust out the checkbook like SMU did.

Monken is a year away from getting a top 25 job. He's not going to step down to rebuild another program.

Remember when you kept telling everyone that Tulane wouldn't fire CJ because of Tom Benson and I kept letting you know how wrong you were? Good times

He wouldn't.
But he was the top OC in the country, and he went to SMU. Yall opened the wallet and got him.

If we offer $2 mill, will get one of these sunbelt/MAC/coordinator/C-USA A listers.
I we go $1.2-$1.5, we'll get a B lister. There are some Bs I like better than As, though.

I believe Tulane should embrace being an elitist school and go full steam ahead and get a coach that embodies white privilege and go after Kiffin. Joe Moglia would be a killer get too.

Incredible job! Just get all the recruits out on New Orleans that LSU doesn't want, and go to a bowl every three years and you have a job for life.

Rhett Lashlee (OC at Auburn)

Please take Lashlee. Auburn fans would start a collection to help pay his salary if you take him off our hands
