Yes, LSU can afford to pay 5 or 6 million a year, but will they?

Maybe for Jimbo Fisher.

Maybe not Tom Herman. I know Herman is the second coming of the greatest of all time, but he is only in his second year at U of H. Now Texas will pay him 5 mil, but will LSU?

Again, this is not about whether LSU can afford to pay top dollar, they can. But will they?

And if Herman or Fisher ain't our coach, then pay scale goes down a bit.

What do you think?

I think anyone other than Herman and jimbo will be less than 5m.

Herman or jimbo will certainly be more than 5m unless there's some intense performance bonuses.

If we don't then we clearly don't value winning as much as we think.

If you want something, you pay what it is worth to you. Our Athletic department is in the green, pay whatever it takes to ensure it stays that way.

If not lets just packs our things and move in to the little 8 house. There is a cozy twin bed next to Arkansas and ole miss

I'm sure A&M will gladly take our spot in the big 6.

Is anyone a guarantee to succeed? No. But the more times you go out on a limb and make that elite hire the more times you will be right, rather than take the bargain hoping it works out.
That's the difference in how consistent your stretches of success on the field will be. That's the difference between top 10 all time and top 20. Commitment to finding a winner.

Michigan could have looked for a solid coach, a bargain hire and maybe hit, maybe missed. They threw 7 mill at the best thing out there. That's why Michigan is Michigan

What is LSU? We'll see

If LSU wants Herman they are going to have to pay Herman. He will be a hot commodity and there could be a bidding war for him. Price might be higher than you think. What if it takes making him the highest paid coach in college football today? Salaries are constantly going up. Just when you think you reached the top, a new level emerges.

The way I think about Tom Herman is this. The man has done so much in such a short amount of time that you'd think maybe it was a fluke. Then you realize that he was O.C. for an Ohio State team that beat Bama with a 3rd string QB and was able to defeat FSU and OU in dominating fashion with Houston. Its not a fluke, he will be the next big thing and you do whatever you can to get him. The guy is a workaholic who is not only smart but passionate about the game. Could you imagine what he could do with LSU's talent and ability to hire top notch assistants? Hell, one of his good friends Dave Aranda, one of the best DC's in football is already here keeping his seat warm.

I think we get him for 6 mil because that's what it'll take. And I don't think he will wait to see if Houston gets into the Big 12 because that won't be until much after the season is over, if it happens at all. He's smart and he sees the potential that coaching a team like LSU has.

I doubt Herman makes more than Saban or Urban Meyer after their bonuses and incentives are factored in. I would expect a top tier salary which could be restructured in a couple years after he wins his first NC at LSU. :-D

I would be more concerned about losing Herman to Texas, but I hope Aranda is already texting him to plant the seed.
