He seems to be a little stagnant / plateaued at TCU. He might have done all he can for that program.

Could he be a change of scenery candidate?

He loves it in Fort Worth. He has the perfect set up for him and honestly I don't think he ever leaves TCU until retirement.

Oil money at TCU bigly supports Patterson and will not let him leave.

considering the big money petro boosters have him set up like crazy with off the field investments that we could never match, its a waste of time.

and honestly would LSU fans be patient with the losing seasons he has had between great seasons?

I could see this. Writing is on the wall with the lack of BIg12 expansion. That conference will go away at some point and does TCU still remain P4/5?

Who would pick them up? I think they would be pretty low on the list honestly

I've read that he has all types of sweet benefits that involve some interest in companies and other things.

That's a pretty wealthy alumni base for a small school.

He's set for life there and will probably win a championship if he stays there until he retires.

Patterson has a good gig going on right now. Until the Big 12 breaks up, he won't entertain any other jobs. Even then...he's probably set at TCU.

No... Good 3 star recruit coach. I don't think he would do well with our talent. It takes a special type of coach to recruit and handle 5 star athletes

Thats my point. The writing is very clearly on the wall that Texas is eventually BigTen or SEC bound. The BIG12 just can't keep up revenues wise with the other 2 majors and that pressure will fold them at some point. I think that point is probably sooner rather than later.

Why not get out of dodge to a safer job?

I think you'll see these facts play out over the next few years. I think Baylor will have a hard time finding a new coach with "elite" status.

TCU is likely pretty low on a list as far as a target to get scooped up by a major conference when the Big12 blows up.

If Patterson is a coach until you're dead type guy, he might want to pull the rip cord now while some good P5 jobs are up for grabs.

The Big 12 GOR lasts until 2024, which means we have another 7-8 years before there is any major conference realignment at minimum.

On top of that, the LHN contract runs through 2030. If Texas decides that is important to them they might keep the Big 12 running in some form until the contract runs out because no other conference would let them have it as it is. In 2030 Gary Patterson would be almost 70 years old.

He doesn't care about conference realignment.
