Ehhhh, is he any good without Kelly/ Mariota? Not saying I've reasearched this heavily but, really fell off after their departure

So is Helfrich the case of a good OC and a bad HC?

Or can we put all of Oregon's offensive success to Chip?

Is he any good without good players? Probably not, no.

He's the one who found Mariota and helped developed him

Their offense was really good during his tenure as a HC, their defense was the issue

And he was basically plucking D2 QBs every year and having a QB carousel and still being successful

Our athletic department has no vision so I doubt we go after someone that isn't just a recruiter or from Baton Rouge. Somebody O owes a favor to.

Heard bad things about him. Sports radio had it from pretty close sources to the situation that Helfrich is Chip kelly's good friend.

Tampa was interested in Chip, but he want Helfrich to take over if he left. Oregon wasn't down with Helfrich. Chip stayed another year and talked Oregon into it.

Supposedly, Chip called the plays while Helfrich was OC and Scott Frost took over when Chip left. Helfrich has not been calling plays. If you look at the Offense, it kind of looks that way going downhill fast.

he runs on offense so radically different than what we do. I just don't like the fit.

Risky hire.. no sustained success without Kelly @ Oregon. Mediocre offenses at Colorado (I know I know, Colorado)...but his only success as OC is with Kelly.

Oregon was ranked 20 in total offense this season. Not too bad.
