I think this is a good move for Tech and for Diaz. Diaz needs a fresh start to get back to roots of coaching defense and Tech brings in a guy with Coordinator experience at least. We shall see if it works, but I think this will turn out to be a good hire.

he fielded the worst defense in UT history. Not one of the worst. THE worst.

My son - a Longhorn fan - referred to him as Manny _iaz.

Yes. He is one of the worse coaches in cfb. I hope la tech likes blitzing for no good reason. And putting linebackers out of position.

One of CFB's mysteries - how Diaz could do (so) well at State and flop at UT.

I guess if he learns from his mistakes it'll be a great hire.

His whole front 7 in 2010 was NFL caliber, and actually motivated unlike Texas'. When you blitz all the time with those kinda athletes good shite can happen.

Our current DC did as well as Manny with freshmen and sophomores.

Holtz was the wrong hire. It's obvious now, but Tech had some great momentum and support going into that hire, and they just chose the wrong guy. I think if Holtz can do a good job hiring good assistants, it may buy him some time.

Exactly, LaTech had two solid hires prior to Holtz's arrival, but instead of hiring another up and comer, they hired a Conference USA re-tread.

Tech's Admin obviously didn't want another stAte situation with head coaches, but I think in another year or two they will be looking for another HC

Manny Diaz fielded the worst defense in UT history with athletes that are much better than what he is going to be working with in Ruston.

It's always a challenge getting great recruits to go to La Tech. If you don't have the players to compete, then you need a system that allows you to be competitive (Crowton, Dykes).

I'll wait to see how things turn out but it's not looking too promising.

Oh and LaTech opens up next year at OU. That should be fun.

The Sooners may put up 80 points on La Tech.

Totally agree, It seems dropping the salary for the HC job limited us to very few good candidates.
