Lol at Narduzzi.

The only thing he'll leave MSU for is a head coaching job.

He was in the wish half....

Steele and Pruitt would be the most likely out of those 4.

I'm pretty sure that was a wish list, but it isn't like he doesn't have connections to Saban. He played at Youngstown State and has coaches under Dantonio for some time. Saban is pretty close to folks in Youngstown and Dantonio served as an assistant under Saban at Michigan State.

Smart to Vandy is more likely than him to UGA as a lateral move.

Unless it is a HC in waiting gig? I mean, people can only work for Saban for so long (some do a second stint, though, e.g. Bobby Williams).

Or Lance Thompson. Or Sal Sunseri.

True - but he has a record of guys taking laterals to at least get a break from the guy.

It's great on the resume. He's a micromanager. Plenty of guys get the experience under him and move on elsewhere to have more control.

And I forget that this is Smart's second (and perhaps, technically, third) stint with Saban - he coached the DBs here in 2004, went to UGA (vice the Dolphins) in 2005 before joining Saban's staff at Miami for 1 year (2006), then following him to Bama in 2007.

So, continously for the last 8 seasons, then 1 previous year (but AT Saban's position) as a position coach. Smart has certainly had the most concentrated and consistent exposure to Saban in the post-Michigan State era, and perhaps the most of any of Saban's assistant coaches ever - particularly as he coached DBs and "coordinated" the defense under Saban.

If Kirby wanted to get out of Saban's shadow and make a name for himself, this is a move he should make.

Move to UGA as DC, build some dominant defenses, get a HC job in 3 years.

Sure CMR & company shite the bed this season and then you have gone from the best coordinator spot in the country into the bread line.

Kirby has a real degree and I doubt he falls for this red herring.

Kirby can probably build a great defense anywhere he is allowed to, "allowed to" being the critical phrase with UGA.

I think Kirby would be great at Georgia, I could see this being like the KC/Philly coaching change last year. Kirby needs a break from Saban and is successful at UGA, whoever Saban brings in has a new perspective and helps Saban make adjustments.

He's been great here but it honestly might be time to pull the trigger, the sum is no longer greater than the parts.

He could get a HC this year if he wanted

This. UGA is the only other place he would go.

Are people forgetting that Smart, despite being from Montgomery, AL, is an UGA alum, GA'd at UGA and, in addition to Saban has been dealing with Bama people for 7 years - not knocking them, but not being from that environment, it might wear on you after a time.

Kirby Smart might not view the UGA DC job (where the head coach is an OFFENSIVE) guy as a lateral - he might consider it one step closer to where he wants to be.
