He purely wants to use it to show he can be a successful head man.

Fertitta ain't falling for his words.

If they give it to Kiffin, expect outrageous buyout.

Miles, however, would likely stay.

If UH is hiring coaches expecting them to stay then they have a terrible, flawed strategy.

At a G5 you hope your coach is successful enough to move up.

Until he is canned.
Miles will not inherit the talent, even on a relative level, that he inherited at LSU. He won't have the LSU brand to attract recruits.
Miles will return UH to it's typical 7-4 results.
I don't think Fertitta will fall for Les either.

Miles and likely peveto will recruit the hell out of Houston and east texas. He'll hire a great staff and they would get a lot of talent.

Agree. Miles on paper has a better resume, is a great recruiter which is proven by how he got top talent receivers to come and be a part of struggling passing offense at the time, and he will likely retire wherever he goes next. Kiffin is still young and will look for a better chance after proving himself at a smaller school.

Huh? You have TX, A&M, LSU, OK, Bama, etc recruiting there. What type of talent will be left?

Ed Oliver already regrets his decision

UH's last 3 head coaches have used it as a stepping stone: Briles, Sumlin & now Herman. They know all bout that dynamic.

Plenty. The city of Houston alone has more FBS talent than most states - they have enough talent coming out of that city to send half a conference filled with nothing but hometown recruits to a winning record.
Whomever gets that job could recruit on a bike. Miles would kill there if he can get the right coordinators.

And yet with all those great coaches, and all those supposed great FBS players they've never been to a major bowl?

Seems like the talent just isn't there, after p5 schools get through picking

Tony Levine was a failure between Sumlin and Briles.

After losing Herman I bet they include a huge buyout in the contract for their new hire.

Agreed. If he gets an offer, a huge buyout will accompany the deal.

UH really wants to avoid being a stepping stone again. I think they will go all out to avoid this in their next coach hire.

They've been to plenty of major bowls - just look up their history. And that's with the 'leftovers.' Barry Switzer once said he could win a national championship every year if he could just get the top talent out of Houston. Them beating Florida State, Oklahoma and a top 10 Louisville team wasn't a fluke - they've consistently overachieved throughout their history.
The right coach could kill there. I've got to imagine Miles has already got recruiting contacts there, and if he could find a way to capitalize Houston would make Boise State look like underachievers.

Miles just needs to convince UH that he will hire a dynamic OC and run a modern offense. He then becomes a homerun hire

Houston doesn't need to beat out ATM and lsu for recruits. All they gotta do is beat out the Texas tech tcu and okie states of the world. But truth is Alotta kids are gonna choose power 5 still even if it means moving to Ames Iowa
