He was a great DC for Utah. Pretty risky HC hire, but it's not like BYU has a huge pool to choose from.

BYU's chances to get into a Power 5 conference got punched in the dick.

Is he the current Utah DC? That's kind of awkward.

Because they aren't willing to spend what it takes to keep up. Too many programs are willing.

With BYU requiring their HC to be a LDS member, Power 5 conferences will see BYU as a future weak link. Besides, they won't bring a huge media market to the table. Good luck to Coach Sitake, maybe he can solidify their coaching and improve their chances.

They bring the same one Utah did to the Pac-12 plus a bunch more Mormons.

BYU has been competitive for 40 years. Certainly more competitive than 3/4 of the schools in P5 leagues. That's not an issue. They also bring a lot of eyeballs.
They are a pain in the arse to deal with and their geography will expand a conference footprint. They also aren't a major research institution (that matters to every conference except the Big 12, when Texas is picking playmates).

Yes. He was a fullback for BYU in the 90s.

Exactly. Like I said, they won't bring a huge media market to the table.

SLC has the #33 media market in the US, behind such giants as Hartford-New Haven, Nashville and Sacramento-Stockton-Modesto. And the home team UofU commands much of SLC. Even more importantly, CFB advertisers won't be thrilled about an LDS target audience. Think Budweiser.

There are good reasons they have yet to be invited to a Power 5 conference.

No, being wrong would imply I'm giving an opinion. I'm not doing that, I'm just listing facts. Such as the fact that no Power 5 conference has offered BYU. Unless you think that's wrong too.

This is an opinion

The last sentence of that opinion is wrong since the same media market helped Utah get in the Pac-12.

These are facts, not opinions. It is not an opinion that the pool of LDS CFB coaches capable of running the BYU program is tiny compared to those coaches that are non-LDS. This is a distinct disadvantage for BYU's competitiveness and therefore to any conference to which they belong.

Secondly, the SLC market is only 33rd in the country and is shared with the home team UofU. Facts, not opinion. The Pac12 has already captured this market, so they have no need for BYU. The Big12 or a smaller conference may be a fit but they must overcome the negatives of the coaching pool and the advertiser's resistance. After all, money talks. Or is that just my opinion?

But go ahead, be our guest and tell us that every FBS conference in the country is also wrong by not offering BYU membership. After all, that's just an opinion.

The biggest hurdle to BYU getting offered by the P5 is their unwillingness to play any athletic events on Sundays.

They are THE university of a church with 15 million members, an enrollment of 30k, and their own TV network. Not to mention they generally always field competitive teams, even with their religious restrictions.

Throwing out arguments like "advertising" and "market" doesn't mean they hurt BYU. They wouldn't have voluntarily gone independent in football during the age of conference expansion if they were so reliant on those things.

Good point. BYU is more financially independent than many schools and thus the lack of conference income is not as serious.

However, I'm looking at the situation from the standpoint of the conferences in regards to what BYU would bring to the table, positive and negative. The recent experience of the Big 10 with Rutgers has given everyone pause to reconsider.

I would like to see them in the Big 12 at some point. The game at Texas recently seemed to be a taste of what could be.
