Joe Lorig- Special Teams Coach at Memphis

Whoever LSU eventually hired to take over as Head Coach, this is the man we need to take Peveto's place as special teams coach. Memphis has had by far and away the best all-around special teams unit in the FBS the entire season. They have had 3 kick returns for TDs, a Groza award nominee kicker, a great per punt average, and are top 5 in return yards allowed. This guy takes our special teams back to the top of the SEC in year one.

Memphis hadn't returned a kick for a TD since 1996 before this year either.

Yep. It was the longest streak in the FBS, dating back to their upset win over Tennessee that season.
In fact, we can all thank that punt return and Phat Phil's incessant whining about it for the clarification of the rules about when a player is down. The Memphis KO returner fell over backwards, but somehow got his elbow down, stabilized himself, and popped back up and started running. Several of the UT players stopped because it looked like he was down, but the refs didn't blow the play dead and there obviously wasn't any replay at the time.
The next year, the NCAA amended the rules to say that anything other than your hand touching the ground is down, unless you are holding for a field goal.
