Earliest I can remember when coaches are quitting or being fired before season is over to get head start on the search process.

Maybe.
Even more reason why Spurrier hung it up earlier as opposed to holding on when the writing was on the wall.
It's like the holiday season, political campaigns, etc. Everything starts earlier and earlier. Why should the coaching hire process be any different?
I blame global warming.
