Is the University of Houston job the greatest stepping stone in CFB history?

Yes. Play a pretty easy schedule. Catch lightening in a bottle and beat a good team in a bowl and teams will be knocking your door down... obviously

You can add Jack Pardee as well. He went from UH to the Oilers.

Hugh Freeze (Coached one year before taking Ole Miss job)
Gus Malzahn (Coached one year before taking Auburn job)
Bryan Harsin (Coached one year before taking Boise State job)

Sounds like Arkansas State doesn't make em, they just take em (for 1 year).

I can't really count that. UH built up Briles, Sumlin, and Herman.

Briles is a great coach...

With a defense, Sumlin is proving to be a success...

Herman will be the next Urban Meyer, book it...

Petersens doing better but Hawkins was awful at Colorado. Nutt and Koetter weren't bad in BCS conferences but they were rather mediocre.

I know not football related but related to coaching stepping stone. sorry Im a baseball guy, and was on Gaspards staff

Northwestern State in Baseball

Jim Wells - Bama Baseball Head Coach

(Van Horn - Arkansas head coach His pitching coach was Childress - Head Coach at TAMU now, and his hitting coach was Matt Deggs - Head Coach For Sam Houston State Now)

John Cohen - Head Coach For Miss St now

Mitch Gaspard - Was Head Coach at Bama till Last year

Cincinnati was the stepping stone for

Mark Dantonio to Michigan State (bowl games every season coaching Sparty)

Brian Kelly to Notre Dame (BCS NCG in 2012 with Irish)

Butch Jones to Tennessee (Has Vols 4-0 in 4th season)
