Could explain the leak. Maybe Alleva and BOS saw they were about to lose him to USUCK and leaked the info and told him he's the guy they want.

He's who I hope we wind up with.

For goodness sake, a guy with less than one year of head coaching experience is not going to get the LSU job. Geez!

Right...Houston is actually ranked 21st in division III not the FBS. I hate this argument. It seriously limits the administrations options with regard to coaching talents. Had Florida used this theory they never would have taken a chance on Spurrier.

Let's hire Malzahn. He was great as an OC, won a NC, and was good for one year at Arkansas State. He will be amazing!

Maybe he can bring Muschamp over here too. All that he needs is a good DC!

Very intelligent and great offensive mind. The experience does scare me but wouldn't stop me from understanding the hire. How's his recruiting though?

I would put Herman and Kiffin together as guys who may not have the HC resumes you would want, but have absolutely proven that they can coach offense and recruit on a big-time level. With Herman you are taking a risk on hiring with a very small head coaching sample, but a very good one. Plus, he has loads of potential. They don't let dummies into MENSA. His offense worked pretty damn well at OSU, and just look at their struggles this season after he left. And his recruiting at Houston has been off the charts. These are things that really set him apart from a guy like Fuente, who could be great, but still has more unknowns.

With Kiffin, you are betting that he's been humbled by his past arrogance and mistakes, and that he is finally ready to manage a big time program now. We've seen the goods with him on the offensive and the recruiting fronts, both at Bama and UT. He just has to prove his maturity. Also, an added bonus with Kiffin is that he has a track record with both Frank and O, and would likely keep them both on his staff. That's one hell of a recruiting group, and it should hold a lot of our class together and new the 2017 guys on board. It sounds strange, but outside of Jimbo, Kiffin probably offers the most potential for near-term stability in staff and recruiting.

If you are unwilling to look past some risks and take a chance on what could be true big time potential, you're going to end up with a very short list of unattainable candidates.

He has recruited WELL above Houston's normal ceiling, with the highlight being pulling Ed Oliver from us and several other big-time offers.
As for his OSU days, I'm not sure since I don't follow them.

Are they any OSU fans out there who can elaborate on Herman's role in recruiting there?

Doesn't Ed Oliver have an uncle and former teammates that are at Houston? I know it's multiple contacts that got him interested and not just Herman.

How about we let him coach a full year before all this craziness alright? Spurrier coached 3 years at Duke in the ACC. That program was garbage and he was able to win there.

Houston went 8-5 last year so they weren't void of talent. Greg Ward Jr (who was great last year and 6-2 as a starter) has improved this year in an offense more suited for him yes, but this has still been one year at Houston (not even a full year). Remember people were ready to crown Fuente after he beat Ole Miss but before losing his last 3 games? Yes one of the was to Houston, but by 1 point @ Houston. IMO, Houston loses to Navy and finishes 11-2.

I mean do you know Kevin Sumlin went to TAMU after being 13-1 his last year at Houston? He coached there four years and they put up crazy offensive numbers. He also put up crazy numbers his 2 years of OC with Oklahoma. He went to TAMU, and they are average at best in the SEC with all that money and offense and recruiting talent.

IMO, had Sumlin and TAMU stayed in the Big 12, they are possibly owning that conference, or at least right up there with the big boys. Herman is the perfect coach for Texas when they let Strong go after 2016. He runs similar to what they did with Vince Young and Colt McCoy.

Just don't trust him at LSU right now. I could be swayed after a year or two at LSU, but not right now.

Ed Oliver's brother plays at UH and his former HS coach was hired as an assistant there. Lets not overstate Hermann's role in landing him
