If he is i don't see anyone trying to wake his arse up this year. 5-14 in his college career isn't going to get him considered for an HC gig...unless his name is Orgeron...it doesn't work like that.

i wouldn't say he's a sleeper. he's on everyone's radar, but people just need to see him turn smu around. i'm sure he will. if/when sumlin leaves a&M, the job belongs to morris.

its his first head coaching gig and hasnt really done shite until last night.

lets wait a little longer before we build a statue for him.

He's a great offensive mind, but jury is still out on head coach material.

I think he has potential but would need to do more at SMU. June Jones left that program in shite shape, so Morris has work to do. Big program building win yesterday though

I've said on here for awhile that he'll turn SMU around and make them competitive again. We'd catch hell from the media with his record, but he'd do a great job here

This is the only fan base in America that will trash a 19-3 coach for a 5-14 and 19-27 coach.

The answer is yes, but not this year, at least not unless he runs the table and goes 8-4 and that's not likely.
Next year he gets everybody back - the hurt QB, the hurt O-line and running back, and another year of redshirts who he has been very good about keeping off the field - and an advantageous schedule. He could go 10-2 or 11-1 and will be off like a shirt. Praying like hell to keep him one or two more years.

Chad Morris reminds me of Art Briles. Both were very successful HS coaches in Texas and built relationships all over the state. June Jones basically quit recruiting towards the end and left SMU in bad really bad shape. Morris has done a good job repairing relationships & focusing on DFW & TX.

I also think Morris could have gotten a better job than SMU. He was a hot name when he took the job. I think he wanted back in the state of Texas. I could see him as a candidate at Baylor or possibly UT, IF those schools were hiring a coach next year & SMU finishes this year strong and gets to 9 or 10 wins in 2017. Unfortunately for him, both will be hiring a HC this year and he doesn't have the resume yet.

SMU is a tough job. He could also flame out and be fired in a couple of years.
