If Coach O is not the head coach, odds are he would not stay on as DL coach, if new coach would offer? How does that usually work? He is key as a recruiter.

It depends. If he goes 3-5 as HC he might stay as recruiting coordinator and DLC. But if he goes 7-1 and beats Bama and doesn't get the nod, he probably wouldn't stay, like at USC.
