If we whiff on our Top 2 options, why not offer CEO a 1-yr contract?

Extend the long-term job interview another year, and see what better long-term HC options arise next year rather than settling for a long-term contract with our 4th or 5th choice this year?

No way he will take an one year offer. The minimum I would take is three years if I was him. By accepting an one year offer provides zero security and that may hurt recruiting as well.
