what makes so many of you think that he could get the head coaching job.

I like Coach O but hes just not a realistic candidate for building a new future for LSU.

Hes a great Dline coach and motivator but I just dont see it when LSU desperately needs offensive know how and creativity.

Hope Coach O stays as Dline coach for many years to come.

from what i understand he wasn't interested in being a dc. he would only take a hc job. what's more concerning is he hasn't been considered for any jobs except mcneese.

Urban built up Bowling Green and Utah before getting a top gig. No comparison there.

Is it a requirement to be a coordinator before you become a head coach?

No but a winning record as HC should be. Assuming you have prior experience.

Why the frick wouldn't you want to become an expert on the side of the ball that you spent your entire career? Red flag.

No comparison only because CEO never coached at Bowling Green or Utah. If he had started at a lower level program it may have been much different than starting at a SEC school and the level of competition that comes with it.

The eye test so far looks like he is a great head coach. If he only loses one game the rest of the season that would be an incredible accomplishment. Especially with what the schedule is and how LSU started off the year.

He might not be good at calling plays. Head coaches don't have to be experts with x's and o's in college. Coach O has the team playing lights out right now. I'm not saying give him the job right now, but if he only loses 1 game how could you not give him the job.

Dumb poster makes dumb post. Shocker...

You realize Urban beat Saban and won some Nattys at Florida right??? So because Urban Meyer did well at other schools coach O gets a pity pass because he was "forced" to start in the SEC???? Jfc, you're blind love for O is ridiculous. I can't believe you are legitimately trying to make an argument defending O because he didn't get the "opportunity" to start at a lower level school. You know maybe O should have thought about that risk before going to Ole Miss.

Easy one of 4 or 5 other coaches with MUCH BETTER HC records say yes. That's all that has to happen.

I would say the very best coaches are x's and o's guys. If you do not have expertise on one side of the ball these days your potential is capped. It's like an advanced degree.

I want a coach with a PhD in offense or defense. That guy is not as much at the whim of coordinators.

This is a common misconception. Head coaches have a very different job than a coordinator.

Coordinators are neck deep in X's and O's, stats, matchups, schemes etc.

A head coach manages everything. His coaches, his players, the media, boosters, etc. There are tons of head coaches who are better at HC than as coordinators. Its just different.

Yes and all these people want is someone who walks and talks like them. That's their biggest requirement. Oh and he "loves" LSU.

DC and head coach are entirely different jobs and skill sets.

what makes so many of you think that he could get the head coaching job.

First 4 games of the season with Les Miles as coach:

257 yards of total offense and 14 points and a loss
371 yards of total offense and 34 points
392 yards of total offense and 23 points
338 yards of total offense and 13 points and a loss

record:2-2
Average yds/game: 339.5
Average points/game: 21
First 3 games with coach O:

634 yards of total offense and 42 points
459 yards of total offense and 45 points
515 yards of total offense and 38 points

record: 3-0
average yards/game: 536
average points/game: 41.6

536 yds/game under CoachO is really all you need to know. Do you realize how f**king awesome that is? If LSU had averaged that all season, we would have the #3 offense in the country. In addition to the vast improvement on offense, LSU's defense has seen great improvement.

What is there not to like, 3-0 record at LSU, almost doubling our yds/game, doubling our points/game, and improving letting out coaches do great work and improve the defense. In addition to all of that, his energy is contagious, he is the best recruiter in CFB, 99% of the fans love him, the boosters love him, he wants to recruit pro-style QBs, and he makes halftime adjustments that actually fricking work. The only thing not to love is his record at Ole Miss, which was a decade ago and was something that he studied alot and made adjustments so that it didn't happen again. If CoachO keeps this up, and you continue to think he should not be the head coach at LSU, you are a dumbass.

Ideally why would you covet a guy that can do both instead of settling for one or the other?

That's the whole point, LSU doesn't have to settle.
