at A&M he has one good season under his belt and the rest has been pretty meh to poor, yet his pay is on championship coach level.

I've often wondered if he would still have a job if it weren't for the 2012 Bama game

IIRC, he hasn't finished better than 3rd or 4th in the West yet?

let's all pretend to forget that most of you rantards as well as the media were predicting A&M to have losing seasons for years to come when we first joined.

solid deflection.

This isn't the SEC rant and this wasn't a troll thread.

Thats pretty irrelevant. What is relevant is that Sumlin is getting paid like an elite coach while A&M has been nothing more than average since JFF won the Heisman.

Its not a deflection. Its stating the truth. Everyone expected A&M to completely suck. We were supposed to be Kentucky level and be dead last in the West every single year while we slowly built up our depth.

Sumlin has exceeded expectations in that regard. I don't think people would be down on him had that first surprise year w/Johnny not happened. Hell, a major reason Johnny even won the Heisman was b/c everyone expected A&M to be god awful.

Had you told people when he was hired that we would make and win a bowl every season and average 9 wins a year I think everyone would be pretty damn happy.

The last time A&M has had a run like this RC was still HC and the Big 12 was only a few years old.

Had Sumlin come in when the team was rolling and put this up, people would feel differently. But he instead came after Fran and Sherman had stunk up the joint.

Pretty good. Under him we have recruited better than we have for ten years, and thanks to him we now have on staff the best single coach to come to A&M in years (Chavis).

Sumlin will eventually find a five star QB he actually likes and we will be set.

Next year is a big year for him. Assuming we finish 8-4 I don't know what would happen if we went 7-5 or 8-4 again

His pay is because USC made a run at him after 2013 and we had to pay him or lose him. He's overpaid compared to what he's accomplished but it would have been much worse had we lost him after just two seasons

This is getting old

They seemed to be more concerned with Les and LSU which isnt shocking

I still cant believe they hired Christensen and havent fired Spav.

So what you are saying, the fan base is happy with him?

That's a much better answer than he's exceeding the expectations of rantards

meh, manziel while doing great things for the program also masked a lot of the issues that we are just getting out of. yes, he really hasnt been able to take the next step and win the big games but he also hasnt lost many games that he shouldnt, auburn this year is really the only one i can think of. so while the jury is still definitely out on him, we are still probably a year away from being sure. anything less than 9 or 10 wins next year and i think we will have our answer

He's definitely elevated that program and that is really all you can ask of a coach in their first 4 years. Sumlin has A&M more competitive in the SEC than they ever were in the Big 12 with Sherman/Frenchione

I'm sure USC wouldn't mind taking him off your hands

He's safer than Les, that's for damn sure
