Honest questions for the board re: Ed O

Not a flame. Asked this earlier and got a couple of honest replies:
1) If any other school in the SEC had an opening at HC this year, how many of them would have Ed O in their top 3?
That's question one. Doesn't mean he can't/won't prove to be a great HC, but I'm curious why LSU seems to be his best (only?) shot at HC in SEC.
2) Why are (some) LSU fans so excited about the possibility of him being your HC? Is it that his candidacy at LSU is the perfect confluence of circumstances whereas he's from the area, loves it more deeply than other candidates, great recruiter, etc? Or is it that LSU fans are seeing this as a legit possibility and are preparing themselves for it?

NO and we shouldnt either

O has run a fabulous PR campaign with the local media and wooed them to the point where it is starting to rub off on the fans as well. Very smart on his part but very dangerous for LSU football's future.

It's immaterial because we're coming after S4B4N.

If he wins the next 5 games he will be on a top 3 list of many schools. If he doesn't he may not be LSU's top 3 either.

That answer would be maybe 1.... Kentucky

That answer is pretty obvious, even to a Bama fan, they're fricking stupid.

I underrated what a salesman this guy is. My biggest fear is him really getting in with the big money guys, they're probably getting all kinds of access right now and loving it.

Too early to tell with only this part of the schedule under his belt. A better test will be seeing how he finishes out against the Black Bears, bama, the hawgs, the gators & the aggies. Everyone's in a rush to ditch or hire him and nothing will be decided one way or another till Dec with the end of the season anyway.

No he won't
He'll be on a top 5 list for programs that haven't been successful the last 15 years or so. You won't see Texas going after him, you won't see USCw or Oregon going after him. Hell, you may not even see Houston go after him.
Some of our fans love fest with him has nothing to do with his coaching ability and everything to do with Louisiana colored blinders.

Well, I asked in as part of a post in one other thread, and then I started this thread so I could get a larger sample size of opinions, so it looks like 2 threads that I'm going to post this question in.

not even a little bit so

Not sure what the 4s have to do with anything, and not sure if you mean "coming after" in the sense of going to try to hire him ( ) or beat him. Either way, odds are against you.

You people are so miserable that you won't be able to enjoy O vanquishing the west

the offense les miles put on the field his last few seasons really did a number on lsu fans. we were starving for some type of change/improvement. O has brought that, so it really shouldn't be that surprising some fans are embracing him as a savior.
again i think it speaks to just how desperate lsu fans have been to move on from the les miles offense.

Ok, the west goes through Bama. If you think O can beat Saban, you're going to be sadly disappointed.

You know, I'm trying to perform sort of an autopsy of Coach O's previous attempts to get a HC gig post-OM. The guy is obviously disarming, charismatic, he's as good as it gets in that department. Yet since his Ole Miss gig, whenever he's gotten the opportunity to interview for a job, programs have said no thanks.
For a guy whose calling card is persuading others, what is he saying or not saying in interviews that is consistently turning off the decision makers? When it comes down to a HC gig, I don't think decision makers want to hear about how much you're going to motivate others and how you're going to play good football and one team one heartbeat. Or at least I should say, they don't want to hear that from HIM. That's what got him in the door, they know all of that.
They want to hear what else do you bring to the table. They want to hear philosophy of a system. They want to know who you want to bring in to help run your team and why they fit. These are areas that I suspect Coach O fails to impress in interviews.
I mean if it were all about force of personality, Coach O would be a top 5 coach in the country. Something about his fundamental understanding of football must be severely lacking for him to get turned down for even smaller gigs. No name coaches are beating him out, probably because they exhibit a logical plan on how to run a CFB team. That's the only conclusion I can reach.
Coach O looks great now to administration because they have no one to compare him to. I think once others are brought in whatever shortcoming that has hindered him in his previous attempts to become HC will rear itself again.

this
and if he wins out, he would be a HC candidate for many schools. But this team is loaded with top 5 recruiting class talent and should be able to attract a better candidate, period.

A girls basketball coach beat him 2 years in a row. It's not that difficult. Saban is clueless when it comes to a hurry up pass heavy offense. He looks like a deer in headlights when up against that.

Here is the simple answer;
We don't know because there aren't any other SEC coaching jobs open right now except LSU.
I am pretty confident of this, if he does go 6-0, 5-1 and maybe even 4-2 the rest of the way that combined with his 6-2 performance at USC as interim will definitely get his name mentioned in coaching searches!
