Umm...so if you change the offense ever...what do you teach the juniors?
It's college dude. It better take jolly well less than 3 yrs to learn the dang offense.

It would be great if Tom Herman joined the staff as the OC and Head Coach in waiting and pay him what Houston is going to give him.

I've heard the same but nothing credible on why (except "politics"). Do you have any insight?

Miles' hot seat would incinerate almost immediately.... while in theory this would be great, in reality, fans would be ready to take that whole "in waiting" tag off at the slightest bump in the road....
the HCIW works when you have an older, successful coach that's not on the hot seat, not one that is... that's just asking for a disaster...
and to the other dude saying we would't have complained about 12-1, 13-0... probably not as much complaining, sure.... some here and there, but obviously if we went 12-1 or 13-0, then you'd have to assume the offense actually, i don't know, worked... don't be an imbecile...
and for those saying the D was the problem... yeah, you don't know shite about football, evidently... if our offense would have sustained drives, and kept them off the field more, so they weren't worn the frick out, especially at areas with little depth (DL), then maybe we wouldn't have allowed so many points... but the offense consistently regressed and didn't put our D in a position to succeed at all

having watched quite a few VT games, Loeffler is probably Les' guy. Match made in heaven really.
I just threw up a little.
I'm not a big fan, either, but he's a hell of a lot better than Josh Henson.

Not sure why anyone would think he has no heat. He came about as close to getting fired as you can without actually getting fired. There's plenty of pressure on him to update the offense. I think he's out after next year unless he wins the secw and/or beats Bama.
Keep dreaming

It would make for an easy transition: things can't get much worse, but the passing game could get substantially better.
If the transition went smoothly, this system fits a lot better. The biggest issue with Miles/Crowton and Miles/Cam is that their philosophies are incongruent. It was obvious with Crowton. All the damn schizophrenic shifting from spread and pistol to I was insane. It was obvious that those two were oil and water once Miles lost faith in 08 and started meddling more.
On the surface, it looks like Miles and Cam's systems would fit well together. It worked in year one because we had an offense littered with NFL staters. We could run I with 2 WRs and still pass effectively because those 2 WRs were just better than everyone except Bama's defenders.
Without that level of talent, this current system becomes a complete mess. Our refusal to throw over the middle doesn't keep LBs and Safties honest. They can cheat up to stop the run knowing that, even if we play action pass, we are likely either going downfield, or lately, to LF out of the backfield. Even on the rare occasion we throw over the middle to a TE, Smith is the only one capable of breaking a big play, and he rarely gets a chance. Also, if we don't run, they are free to continue on and rush the passer with little risk, because we are usually trying to go downfield.
We've all discussed the downfield throws. It takes a very good to great college QB with touch and accuracy to make those throws. Harris and Jennings just aren't there. Even with play action, we rarely see big play opportunities anymore because, even with 8 in the box, you can double 1 WR, single the other, and still have a safety that can get back into the play if one of the routes is short to medium range. Miles and Cam's philosophies actually focus attention on the weaknesses of each. If you don't have amazing talent and execution (remember the 2013 OM game?), you will struggle.
A west coast system would be a better fit for us IF....IF Harris or another QB on the roster could develop enough touch and accuracy to make the short throws that system focuses on. It puts the LBs and Safties in play in the passing game, making play action with Fournette much more of a threat. Also, that attention on the middle of the field creates better one on one match ups down the field when you do take a shot.
With TEs like Gordon (if he gets a 6th yr), Smith, and Jeter, we could actually run a 2 WR I and still have a diverse passing attack. It's the most bang for the least radical change in my opinion. This system might actually make Miles' brand of football work. It would certainly be better than what we are doing.

Come on now.. An orange highway cone wouldn't be able to tell Les how many time outs he has left.

From what I heard, lsu had a really good offer on the table. Jimbo asked for a little more than what lsu was willing to do, I think it started falling apart the latter part of the week. I think the way the Athletic department handled it had alot to do with it too. Alleva let this thing sit around so long trying secure his man, it allowed miles integrity and likeability to become bigger than the coaching change. The national media, fans, rival schools, and students have lsu a huge black eye. Lsu had Jimbo ready to go when miles flirted with Arkansas last time. The AD just dropped the ball. Should have never let the leak out and operated behind closed doors. The lack of respect for miles killed lsu and the deal. That's my opinion.

On side note Kendall Briles would be fun to watch run the offense

If LSU had Jimbo waiting in the wings when Miles flirted with Arky, why not call his bluff and refuse to saddle LSU with an oppressive auto rollover and buyout
