at a local football club dinner. It's a shame that he and Ron Franklin don't call games anymore. The guy really knows his stuff.

Anyway, he talked about the Michigan job, and said the top 3 candidates were Miles, Brian Kelly of Cincinnati, and Bob Stoops. He said Stoops because he felt like perhaps he'd been at Oklahoma too long and was looking for a change. Gottfried thinks that Kelly will get the job, though, because he believes he's the best fit.

Gottfried was later asked if Miles does go to Michigan, who would replace him at LSU? He first mentioned Jimbo Fisher of all people, but then added he doesn't believe he's done enough at Florida State to warrant it. He next listed Pelini, if he doesn't go to Nebraska. The last guy he mentioned was Jim Grobe of Wake Forest, but he said Grobe may not want to coach at a big-time program.

Anyway, I'm just the messenger here, but that's what Gottfried said. I don't necessarily agree with all of it, but it's interesting nonetheless.

He obviously didn't see Stoops' reaction on ESPN when asked if he was going to UM. Stoops basically laughed and said where does this come from! Someone ought to call Stoops and let him know it came from Gottfried .

Used to love him with Ron Franklin, Adrian Karsten, and Dr. Jerry Punch on ESPN Sat Night Games, they were and are still the gold standard of NCAA game crews to me..

But since his stroke, Gottfried isn't too far behind Lou Holtz in the approaching senility department, but believe he may be correct with the Kelly to UM call..

Gottfried and Holtz are getting close to needing nurses, a good old folk's home, bibs, and all the Motts Apple Sauce/Jello Pudding they can eat.
