My wildcard for #Michigan is Greg Schiano, might even be front-runner. Will get excellent recommendations from high-powered #NFL coaches

Hard to pick which part of the Tweet is harder to believe: Schiano as a strong-enough candidate to be a possible “front-runner”, or multiple NFL people recommending a guy who was a disaster in the pros.

Must not know much about Schiano. There was a good article on him a few months ago about how he's spent this entire year critiquing everything about his coaching style

Schiano is a great college coach, not so good NFL coach. Nobody cared about Rutgers football ten years ago.

Can't be who CC was talking about...Schiano is not some "secret" candidate no one is talking about. Schiano is, and has been, all over everyone's radar. Hell, I believe Schiano was Top5 odds on Bovado to become Michigan's next head coach.

If he gets the job, then yes that is who Cowherd was talking about.

If he doesn't get the job, then no, that is not who Cowherd was talking about.

Admittedly, I don’t, but I do know he appeared to be overwhelmed in the pros. While that’s certainly not a disqualifier, it’s also far from ideal.

I’ll admit that perhaps he’s in a similar spot as Lou Holtz was after his stint with the Jets---and he had a pretty nice career after that, of course--but I still wouldn’t want him as a “leading candidate” for my school’s HC position this early in the process.

Cowherd said the choice was a current coach. Is Schiano coaching anywhere?

No. Cowherd said it was someone that was currently coaching.

I wouldnt say front runner, but I think if I had to make a bet, he would be it.

Without Schiano, Rutgers would not be in the big10.

He might actually be a solid hire for Michigan.

Did Schiano move Rutgers U into the New York TV market or something?

Let's not pretend the big ten was going after talented teams here

Saban, petrino, spurrier, carrol all bombed in the pros.

Michigan could do a lot worse.

Almost nobody in the fan base wants Schiano.

Just take a look at mgoblog, which is basically the only Michigan site that the fans take seriously. There's almost universal opposition to a Schiano candidacy over there. Beyond the "unicorn hires" that most fans acknowledge are long shots, the names that are seriously being floated as top-tier hires are Miles, Mullen, and Mora. The rest of the field isn't in the discussion at this point.

True but there is no doubt Schiano made Rutgers a relevant football program for a brief period.
