His plan backfired and has been vindicated
Tom coughlin hired as VP of football operations and they extended the GMs contract by 2 years

i think he's a good coach. he's got defensive talent there. needs to get that offense in shape, big draft at 4 ahead.

Haven't been impressed with marrone so we shall see. Feel like they could have done better

I don't think he's a bad coach but I always wondered exactly what happened in Buffalo. Maybe I missed it. I just remember them going 9-7 and things looking up for them then he opted out for some reason and the players were pissed at him

He opted out because a loophole in his contract allowed him to get paid by the Bills and paid by whatever other team signed him. So he had an incredibly rare chance to double dip and possibly end up at a more functional franchise
This backfired because the NFL is a good ole boys club that frowned upon his shenanigans and didn't want to set a precedent, so they essentially blackballed him from getting any interviews and he took a position job with the jaguars and worked his way up

Not a homerun hire but they could do a lot worse. He's a good football coach.

Another recycled head coach.

That's not exactly what I would call a recycled head coach. He wasn't fired and had a pretty good season in Buffalo

Ah okay. It will be interesting to see how he does in Jax. If anything there should be a fantasy rebound for Bortles and a receiver or two

Interesting. I wonder how much say he had in the HC hire
Posted on 1/9/17 at 4:06 pm to ShaneTheLegLechler
I would imagine he had a very high amount of say.
I can see him being a fan of Marrone.

Yeah I was thinking for some reason Marrone was with him in New York briefly but he wasn't. They seem like they'd be on the same page though

This guy has a sub 500 coaching record. Football might be the only profession where being below average at your job rewards you with millions of dollars.

9-7 at Buffalo? Hmm. We shall see. I like that TC is coming back. Anything has to be better than that players coach Gus
Posted on 1/9/17 at 4:35 pm to JinFL
Yep anything is better than gus. Not great hire but I like Tom C in charge of everything football.
Posted on 1/9/17 at 4:36 pm to AUCE05
Bill Belichick was 36-44 with the Cleveland Browns FWIW
Posted on 1/9/17 at 4:39 pm to ShaneTheLegLechler
Nothing indicates this guy is on BB's level. I think the only season a team coached by DM won more than 8 games was his year with the Bills. He is not good at coaching football.
